    Which would you choose Beefmasters?

Which ones do you consider to be "legends of the breed"? Also- what do all the codes mean... classified XYZ? the asterisks, etc?

    Beefmaster AI sires?

Seeking advice on best beefmaster bulls to use and where straws can be purchased. Thinking of AIing heifers in the future (for main purpose of producing replacement females). Also, personal preference is non-black bulls, polled is a plus. Any tips from the beefmaster breeders?

    hereford herd

If you're in South Georgia then you need to call Bill Hatchcock right away and buy one of his young bulls. I've spoken to him multiple times, he has the kind of bull you want for both your registered and commercial herd. There are also pics floating around on here. real nice animals...

Don't think the part about higher BW applies, or is entirely correct. A pure brahman bull on english cows will drive up BW, but there are plenty of BR influenced breeds that have low BW. Also, a BR or BR influenced cow will typically have less calving problems. Lower sale prices = meat...

    New bull

BLP, hope you listen to the sincere constructive criticism and not make this your herd sire (or anyone elses). If you've committed then it doesnt mean you can't butcher him or take him to the sale barn. Where are you located? Perhaps we can point you in the right direction to some real good...

    my replacements this yr..beefmasters again

Gary- why aren't you going to register them? seems that you could get a bit more for them later if you had to sell em, even as 5 yo cows. Also, gives you the option of selling their calves registered. whats your (and anybody else) thoughts on this?

    my replacements this yr..beefmasters again

another beefmaster breeder told me that there was some kind of either: 1) time/age limit for registration, or 2) the price went up after a certain age... can't remember which case it was, he just said "if you're gonna do it, do it sooner than later"

    Beefmasters I saw today

Thank you for the input! Well, if I had to pick between angus and beefmaster breed cows in general, I'd pick BM b/c they're better suited to my climate and offer more mating flexibility. So, I could use these heifers as a starting point and breed to better BM bulls with the essential traits...

    Beefmasters I saw today

At a crossroads... do I sell my 6 good black angus heifers out of a really great bull (along with my crossbreds) in order to buy 11-12 reg beefmaster heifers, most of which are out of bulls that I don't prefer, but are a breed more suitable for the south? BM heifers look fine, I just can't get...
