Most Murray Grey's are homozygous black, they are lightened to silver/grey/charcoal because of diluter genes. So that is why the cross would result in dark calves. Keren could probably give you more detail on that.

If you are using a fullblood (red) Limi, and your cows are F1s (heterozygous black); then you should expect 50% red and 50% black.

I'd keep the M. Shorthorn/Jersey. We have a grass fed dairy pretty close and I went up and talked to them once about the breeds they have. They said that if they had to start again they would go with strictly jersey/M. shorthorn crosses becuse they performed in their conditions the best.

:oops: I should have proof read that before posting. I did not mean to say linebreeding/chasing EPDs caused genetic defects. I meant that it can cause genetic defects to "rise to the surface." I do not think that what that breeder was correct in what he was saying or atleast worded it very badly.

I would have to disagree with the two of you. If there are people out chasing EPDs (and its no secret that there are) people are to be linebreeding a little too closely and bringing any genetic defects to the surface. Do the EPDs themselves directly cause genetic defaults, no; but in my opinion...

I think he means post your pictures with a quote of his pic so he can compare the animals easier.

You wanted calves right? BTW, there is a chance that the reddish calf that I sent you a pic of is 1/16 Brown Swiss. The guy they came from said he wasn't but you never know.
