    Oil vs Colic

I've fed oil on pellets, grains, beet pulp, alfalfa pellets and sweet feed. I've never had a horse choke or colic while I fed'm oil (which was all the time). I guess about 16 horses over 10 years, everything from QHs to Arabs to TBs to Drafts.

    Oil vs Colic

When I'm flush I use corn oil. 4 days before pay day they get vegetable oil. The only problem I have is gettin' large jugs of oil. I can't find anything within 22 miles of home except 1 gal bottles. P.S. Don't use any oil that has additives for frying. Get Pure stuff.

    Oil vs Colic

Because I live in the sand south of San Antonio people often ask me why my ponies don't colic. I think it's because I feed oil. A Trainer was at my house yesterday and when she saw me feeding she commented that my ponies must never colic because they get so much oil. Emmett Dalton, my Shire...

    What Will The Effect Be?

Ya'll need to remember that it's not just wrecked, broken down, old or crippled horses that used to go to slaughter. There were plenty of healthy, fit, sound ponies being slaughtered. Every killer buyer I saw tried to get the best buy, nice heavy horses, that they could get. I don't go to the...

    despooking

I had a Draft that was afraid of a flashlight. And yep, feeding him in the dark, plus poppin' the light on and off and rubbin' the lite flashlight on him, solved the problem.

Is it true horse slaughtering is illegal in the US?

That Law was passed in 1949. It's one of many Texas Laws on the books that are not enforced. Well, this one will be now, pending any other court action.

Is it true horse slaughtering is illegal in the US?

Texas has caught up to the rest of the country. Most folks are from the city, learn about animals including Livestock fron Disney type TV shows. I'm afraid that there will be a horse disaster with people dumping horses just like they do dogs now.

    Training Aids

So how do ya feel about the responsible use of spurs, whips, stud chains, quirts, etc. While I don't endorse their being used to abuse a horse, I do see where they are, at times, needed. There aren't many I recommend for use by new riders or those who aren't trained in their use.

Is it true horse slaughtering is illegal in the US?

There's still a market for horse meat mostly for Zoos. It's not illegal to slaughter a horse in Texas unless it's for Human consumption.

horse tied too long, leg caught in rope, need your help pics

One of my friends had a big TB that he normally kept inside a hiot wire. To stake out that pony he'd run kite string from tree to tree enclosing an area. The pony would stay inside the 'fence'. People used to come by just to see that big pony inside a kite string fence.

Now that this is settled I guess we can all go down to the stock tank and watch Chippie walk on water.

We always gelded when it was very cold and dry. Cuts down on infection and flys.

New here and have a LONG question!!!

Luckily there's still a bunch of good Cowboy's in South Texas who'll do most things on a dare and the others for a beer. BTW, it takes me about an hour to get straight in the morning. I don't ride anything but the gentle giants anymore.

New here and have a LONG question!!!

I can tell ya what worked for me on a horse who wouldn't except a rider. We got together a half dozen real good horsemen and rode the pony in like a tag team deal. He didn't go without someone on him until he was wore out and his tongue hangin' out. No abuse just ridden all day. It didn't...

    What Will The Effect Be?

It appears that horse slaughter in Texas is over, barring appeal. I don't think this will effect high dollar horse prices but I do believe that the bottom will drop out of the backyard horse market. What's ya'lls opinion?

    Spanish Dress in Parades

Contact the San Antonio, Texas Chamber Of Commrece. I've seen lots of those dresses around here. There ought to be several Spanish/Canary Islander groups in this area.

    Drugged Horse

Here we're in a buyers market. Hay is sky high. If the seller won't work with me I can just go find another seller. I do wonder what the going price is on a drug scan? I'd like to sit down with a Prosecuting Attorney and see if we couldn't come up with a Criminal Charge.

how popular or unpopular is the color dun?

Folks around here don't like white faces or blue eyes because there's some much bright sunshine that, at least in theory, it adversely effects the eyes.
