Advice for involving horses in wedding

OK, I had my heart set on my fiance and I riding off after our wedding (instead of the normal get away "car") Anyway my dress is kind of "form fitted" and I'm not sure that I'm going to be able to get my leg up over the horse without hiking my dress way up (yikes!) So, what are my options...

Problems loading horse into two-horse trailer? LOOK HERE

I don't think it's a good idea to feed horses in trailers...in fact I tried that (per advice from this board). She choked. Later, the vet said never feed horses in trailers because they can't stretch their neck out enough to swallow right. All I know is that she wouldn't go in the trailer...

Problems loading horse into two-horse trailer? LOOK HERE

For the past couple of years, loading my SSH mare into a two-horse has been a nightmare. Anytime we go out trail riding I dread loading her up at the end. After working with her for only 20 minutes using this strategy she went right in without force! After that first time, she went in about...

i want to keep my horses

hey guys, i have four horses, and my dad pays for the hay/feed. we used to just have two horses, so the feed bill has gone up (considerably). I'm sure we are giving them more than they truly need and I was wondering where we can cut costs because he wants me to sell two of them. They go...

    compressed feed tub???

There's a boarding place around here where we went to get hay today. The guy said something about some Mormon's make this feed tub that they feed all their horses and then you don't have to give them their protein or grain. It's 300 lbs and its in a green plastic tub. They lick it to get all...

    Thrush treatment

My SSH has the same problem. Our vet (very respected) reccommended that we get a ketchup squirter bottle and fill it with 1/10 bleach-water. He said pick her hooves out everyday and spray some of that in there. He didn't seem to think the other more expensive chemicals were worth using.

what kind of hay to feed?

That helps a lot! That's what we've been feeding...my worry is how much alfalfa is too much? I heard that it tears up their insides and makes them feisty if they aren't worked hard. And, like I said, we don't even do any riding in the winter. Hillary

what kind of hay to feed?

We fed that Sweet Feed from TSC for about 10 years...but that was just when we had our QH and donkeys. After we got the TW gelding and the Spotted Saddle mare we had the worst trouble with them choking on any kind of feed that contained pellets. Finally we decided to not feed any kind of feed...

what kind of hay to feed?

We feed 10% all grain from TSC...about a feed scoop apiece. We've been feeding hay with about 30% alfalfa, I give them a bale a day. I just think they probably don't need the alfalfa considering we don't work them or ride them at all right now.

what kind of hay to feed?

What kind of hay should I feed my horses? We don't ride them barely at all in the winter...we just need something to keep their nutrition and weight on them. What do you all reccommend? I get lost in all the hay lingo...orchard grass, timothy, alfalfa, etc. Thanks alot guys!

    2 Questions: Mustangs...and hay

I've noticed that mustangs are cheaper than other types of horses around here. Is there a reason for this? Are they harder to train? Feistier? I've never been around one...we have QH, TWH, Spotted Saddle, Paso Fino. Just wondering what experiences you all had had with mustangs, they seem...

Muddy entrance to stall...still a problem

Hey guys, I am confused about the gravel talk...will a gravel pit know what I'm talking about when I say these things? Is crush-n-run the same as crushed limestone? About how much should I expect to pay for these? Thanks! Hillary

Muddy entrance to stall...still a problem

What's the difference between crushed limestone/road-base limestone? Where would I get road-base limestone...a gravel pit? Buy it by pick-up full?? About how much money are we talking you think? The entrance to the barn is about 12 feet wide...the muddiness extends quite a few feet out from...

Muddy entrance to stall...still a problem

We have been trying to formulate different solutions to our problem (which only seems to be getting worse partly due to nasty weather). About 15 feet out on all sides of the entrance to the horse stall is just mucky mud, they're getting it caked on their hooves/legs daily. They have free...

    Kent Feeds?

Do any of you feed Kent Feeds to your horses? What are their prices like? I've settled on liking the 12% sweet feed from TSC (no PELLETS!). Do Kent Feeds sell a similar feed?

    coughing

Flame was still coughing quite a bit, and for the past week it has calmed down immensely. He rarely, if ever, coughs...he did cough a little bit when I was riding him today. Nothing to write home about though. I was wondering if this could have any relation to the fact that we wormed them...

    trail mules vs trail horses

What do you guys think? I was thinking about getting a mule in the future at some point, all we do is trail ride. I was surprised to see that there are gaited mules when I was messing around online. What are the pros/cons to mules vs horses.

    coughing

He's not doing any better since my last post. We've ridden him a couple of times. Saturday he bent his head down trying not to put the bit in his mouth, he's never done that before. When we tightened the saddle it seemed to make him have a 1 min coughing fit. I did feed him that morning...

    coughing

We have a Paso Fino mix gelding who has been coughing a lot lately. It started probably a week ago and he was coughing about every minute. It's a real dry cough but sounds like it might be deep in the chest. As of yesterday he was still coughing, but about once every 30 min. I was thinking...
