    Frame Score

I appreciate all the replies. Angus sires have gotten "moderate" (or short, haha). It's interesting looking at the measurements and the epds and where those contradict.

    Frame Score

Looking at AI sires for 2024. Trying to understand Frame Score vs actual measurements. One bull has a MFS (I assume mature frame score) of 4.9 with a mature height of 56 in. Another has a score of 5.2 and a mature height at 33 months of 54 in. Does that make sense?

    What is your market?

    Proven female makers

Although it's fun to talk sires -- I've come to the conclusion this question begins (and perhaps ends) with the dam. Want good cows? Start with good cows. I've culled some beautiful cows because they wouldn't breed back. And I've kept some with poor structure because they breed back first...

Will a bull be able to change post thaw quality

To your original question -- go look up the history of an angus bull called GB Fireball 672 -- not sure if there is much on cattle today -- but there is a FB page that should have some information.

Will a bull be able to change post thaw quality

There are a lot of good AI bulls available - what's so special about this seemingly risky sire?

    Millah Murrah Angus

The ABS Australia group puts out good notes in the ABS australia catalog. They also have a youtube channel where they have a video on paratrooper. If you go here there maybe some info and videos: https://www.absglobal.com/au/beef/beef-sires/angus/

    Deer Valley Old Hickory

His epds for feet/angle are still poor -- 95th percentile : https://www.angus.org/Animal/EpdPedDtl?aid=GAAAAA2P4J5g1Y0s22EMYk%252baGTiIW6l%252bECnVq%252f2K8727mqOm&time=LgAAALwRuS3pdokEBUoWluQoHmRzOTf9uvsvuoIuIsNVQfg8IOal%252f24btARfxaxv5rJKdw%253d%253d But if you are just using him for...

    What happened to Connealy Clarity?

Call/Message Conneally Angus. I have found that the vast majority of seedstock producers are very willing to answer questions. I don't know anything about Clarity -- but I do know that bizarre injuries happen to all cattle and high dollar AI bulls aren't immune.

    Moderate Frame

Agreed. I wish an actual yearling height measurement was as easy to find as the BW epd. Lesson learned though -- I won't use a bull unless I know actual data on yearling and mature height. Why? Because, in my experience taller=longer & taller=better finishing weight (both lbs and less amt...

    Getting Started

Where are you located? (you can put that in your profile info) Others with far more knowledge about selling seedstock will hopefully reply soon -- but I'd stress that you want to know if your customers are selling weaned calves, on the rail, etc. If you currently have 20 herd cows and you...

    Thoughts on this bull

I think this is the modern seedstock reality. Both breeders and AI companies can comb the data and find outliers. The bull may be in some commercial pasture and they buy the bull just for the potential genetic merit in the EPDs/DNA. It's my understanding that there is a bull that sold...

    Getting Started

Successful seedstock breeders build reputation through time, perserverance, and building relationships/marketing. Successful commercial cattleman make a living through perserverance and astute management of costs. What seedstock market are you looking to enter/fill? What would your...

    Thoughts on this bull

Admittedly I figured out who the bull is :-) My initial thoughts aligned with Ken. I was not familiar with the bull. Interesting pedigree (for me anyway).

    Full Power

Good question. First, I should have said this up front -- I run a calving to finishing operation. Because of that, I'm looking at an animal across the spectrum. Second, I'm only commenting on Power Tool, I can see the bottom side of the pedigree (Connealy Confidence) likely would have some...

    Full Power

I haven't used this bull (I would consider him once his accuracy gets higher as his EPDs meet criteria I look for). Based on a seminar by an ABS rep and by looking at their catalog -- ABS tends to buy sons/grandsons of bulls they think carry on and improve upon the sire/grandsire...

    MEAD magnitude

Just saw the sale order for the SAV sale on Sat. If I read that correctly the first and second bulls to sell -- Lot 355/351-- are out of Mead Magnitude.

    MEAD magnitude

I have NOT used Magnitude, but he has been on my short list for the past 2 years (I only use 2-3 AI sires each year). But I have heard very solid reviews of his calves (on another online forum).

    Embryo’s…?

We used ET for the first time last summer. The Embryologist had us set up our recips with cidrs much like for AI. The embryo is then implanted roughly one week after you would normally AI the cow. That's a very rough timing. I'm sure others can give the schedule down to the hour/minute.

    Where do you find it?

I know ABS has a bull search app that has at least the capacity to show these items -- not sure if this link will go there for Mead Magnitude (that sire just was at the top of the list): https://absbullsearch.absglobal.com/details/bull/29AN2023/B/USA/AN/EN/USA/USA I've been using that cross...
