    Old Simmental Semen from 1999

Yep. Roger has probably one of the best eyes for evaluating stock I've run across, and the kids were some of the best showman I've seen. We only now understand how lucky we were to have Roger teach our little 4-H team how to judge. I live literally 4 miles from Goodrich Place, just across town...

    Old Simmental Semen from 1999

Interesting stuff. I live about 10 minutes from what was the Triple C farms. A good friend actually rents the second farm for his cattle now. My sisters grew up showing against both of the Allen kids.... County fair was a bit tougher in our neck of the woods lol! Oddly enough, though this isn't...

Was going to ask about defect status, but I found it. Nevermind me....

    Semen providers

We have used Genex and Grassroots exclusively for a long time now. There just are not as many reps for the others in our area. My main complaint with most is that they have none or next to no Limis. Even Cattle Visions does not carry Limis (every other breed though)

    Hoover Dam or his sons

I did, and I stand by my evaluation. In fact, my assessment of her phenotype is almost exactly opposite of Redgully's. Furthermore, I made no comment on her pedigree or fertility or age.

    Hoover Dam or his sons

Interesting. I read her as plenty wide in her hooks, but narrow in her pins (something I see in the vast majority of Angus these days). I suspect that the picture does her no justice....

    Bull Opinions?

I'm not a huge fan of his front third. He seems really steep and bold in his shoulders. Based on that photo alone, that would be about my only real concern on his phenotype...

    Collection worthy?

Our grass just started to turn green. We are a good bit out from actual pasture.

    Collection worthy?

Now that makes sense! Sell whatever commodity is up and feed what is down. I buy all my feed stuffs, so I have to figure things quite differently.

    Collection worthy?

I'm trying to figure out why grain is the basis of your feed program, not roughage...?
  12. Boot Jack Bulls

    Collection worthy?

This bull hasn't seen grain of ANY kind since he came off a show string at 2 years old... This pic was taken last week (he's 5 years old)...

    Collection worthy?

An idle, average sized stock horse eats a small bale a day of quality hay. There is no way in Hades a large ruminate is going to maintain condition on that amount. Perhaps that is why you are feeding so much grain? My mature bulls (2 years and older) get only high quality alfalfa and grass mix...

    Collection worthy?

I've collected a few of mine. Mostly as an insurance policy against anything happening to a bull I highly value. I also like being able to go back an use some of them again. If I like a bull enough to keep him around, he is almost definitely getting collected....

    Best Used AI Tank?

I like the MVEs. I have a few different tanks, but the MVE is a sleep at night deal. I have one with a wider neck, which is great for adding and removing inventory....it's not great for LN retention. The ones with a smaller neck retain LN longer, but I end up removing a canister (as in removing...

    Phenotype, your favorite bull?

This is my favorite Angus bull, his sire BR Midland is a very close second. Obviously, I am extremely biased, but I think this guy has a pretty stellar, highly functional phenotype. If I were to wave a magic wand and change him, I would pull his heart girth down just a tick. He works well in my...

    Phenotype, your favorite bull?

Perhaps the bull is sickle hocked and Mr Herbster decided to overlook that because of the bulls other attributes. Maybe you should ask him. I doubt he considers the bull a perfect specimine either, no truly wise cattleman should be so short-sighted. As progressive breeders, we should all...

    Phenotype, your favorite bull?

You are missing the point. If I had that guys money, that particular bull wouldn't be my choice. It has nothing to do with who owns him or any of that. I'm sure there are some I like that Mr Herbster does not. I will be the first to admit that my bulls have flaws. In fact, to my knowledge, the...

    Phenotype, your favorite bull?

I concure! I really dislike his front third...He could be any other breed and I still would pass on him based on this photo. :hide:
