    Capitalist vs DV patriot

Looking for moderate size and easy fleshing, who wins, cap 028 or his son patriot. Anyone have experience with both? I have heifers from 028 born last fall and I like the, so far.

    Technique question

I'm also fairly new, probably less than 25 cows bred. It seems like I have less of that balloon issue if I clean out as much of the fecal matter as I can reach. Whether it helps them move air out, or makes more room for the air, I'm not sure. But I think it works. I remember the feeling you have...

    Spring Breeding, What's Everyone Using?

Here’s a capitalist son And here’s a heifer Comrade grows nice females, but small. They don’t grow fast, but they are shaped well and their docility is impeccable. I like my capitalist calves, little more frame and growth potential, falls down the middle on mature sizes.

    Spring Breeding, What's Everyone Using?

Preach it. Here’s a good example. Comrade moves from 2014-2020.

    Sitz Barricade solid epds

I've never seen a pedigree with a line of foot scores that are all that high. Kinda wild. Looks like he'll grow big calves. keep your pulling chain handy. And yeah, as you said, low accuracies like that are virtually useless in my experience.

Hoover Angus - which bulls do you like for AI?

Not sure where you're located, but folks at hoover have always been very helpful in my selections. They would welcome you to come take a tour of their herd as well, if that's possible.

    S Summit 4604 or S Chisum 255

We are a small operation. I wouldn't have enough data to really be useful, but I have noticed his HP dropping over the past few years. I can't say that his daughters stand out as being an issue at my place. I will say that his docility is for real. I used him on our wildest cow, who isn't really...

    S Summit 4604 or S Chisum 255

I agree with that. I actually have a 956 son in my lot right now finishing him out, and while his frame isn't huge, he has grown well. Will finish out about 1300 probably. I also do not breed for big cows, but I try to keep off the other end of the numbers as well. I'm a tall guy and one of my...

    S Summit 4604 or S Chisum 255

either of those would probably be fine. Your mature weights are going to be pretty low, so you may want to keep that in mind. Breeding heifers from ultra low mature weight bulls has its own set of concerns. A 2400 pound clean up bull can injure yearling heifers, as well as calving concerns...

    S Summit 4604 or S Chisum 255

let me add to my comment, and completely agree with W.B. on the docility of summit 956 calves....I've gotten calves from my most nervous cows, and those calves are like puppies.

    S Summit 4604 or S Chisum 255

whats your intentions? If it's to create steers that will perform, I'd avoid those, but I'm guessing that's not your goal? I have some experience with s summit 956, and they do ok. they aren't flashy, their feet aren't great, but for some reason some of the calves grow faster than others, at...

How many hours after pulling CIDR?

It's all just a numbers game. We heat detect then time AI at 72 hrs. There are always a few that get bred at about 48 hours after pulling the CIDR. You're always going to have some that cycle earlier, and some that cycle later. Trying to catch the bell curve is what the published protocols are...

Yeah, That's been about the rate of settling we get with timed breeding.

    Cidr protocol expectations

You know what’s funny, 3 of the 4 cows we bred on time this year, we also bred on time last year. And had 2/3 settle.

    Cidr protocol expectations

This is our third year of ai breeding using a synching process. We do the gnrh-cidr-PG heat detect, then time breed at 72hrs non responders with another gnrh shot. We generally have cows in good condition, as calves are pulled off 8n March or April, and cows spend the summer on brome pasture...
