What cuts to get on a half of beef?

You can get more steaks by telling the butcher the thickness you want. I wouldn't recommend less than 1". Also tell him to cut all your roasts into steaks. Hillbilly

    Using Horses

I just holler "HAY!" The other day I was trying to call them out of a big thicket. I stood at the edge and was hollered "Hay...Hay...Hay!" After a while a voice hollered back "WHAT?" I forgot it was deer season... We have found its much easier to lead them than to drive them. Hillbilly

    Market trends

Argentina and Australia are the two that we import the most from. They both send us "eared cattle" [sorry for opening this can of worms] I belive we import beef that winds up in hungry man dinners and salsberry steak, frozen dinners and campbells soup and every other processed beef product that...

    Hides

Coon hides arn't worth skinnin in Missouri. We used to do alot in the late 70's. I went to sell with the Wilson boys [RUFF] once. There hides were poor and didn't get much for them [summer coons] They gripped to the trader about needing more money for beer. He told them he would give five...

    Market trends

Our ten year cycle has been fairly predictable since I've been at this['86] But things are much different this time around. Normally cattle numbers are the leading factor in the "turn". Some of us thought the cow in washington might trigger a "turn", it didn't. From where I stand the market...

    hay questions

Don't put it in the barn for a couple of weeks. I keep my hay inside and used to try to get it in ASAP. Found out that if you let it cure a couple of weeks it actually stays better than if you put it inside right away. The bales will stiffen up a little and will have less mold at feeding time...

    Front End Loaders

I think newer 55 to 60 HP tractors are much lighter than they were a few years ago. With a heavy load on the front end you would be stuck about half the time. That is why 4 wheel drive is more important now on smaller tractors. Also because of the lighter weights, when you have a heavy load on...

    Coice select spread.......

over my head. Maybe the spread of quality is also getting closer? Our freezer is getting a little low. My wife bought around 8 lbs. of sirloin for $34. [4.25 per #] Nothing fancy, wasn't marked select, choice, prime...nothin. I thought it was going to be like the last store bought steaks we...
