    Free bull usage

Just curious on everyones take on a free bull usage other then feeding him. Would breeding heifers/cows and selling as bred or breeding then calving and selling pairs make more sense? Or any other ideas?

    Bull rest period between groups

I've got an idea to breed some heifers with a calving ease bull and perhaps do it 3 times a year. How long would you want a bull to rest before turning in another group? I'm thinking 10-15 hd at a time for 45 to 60 days.

    heifer temperament

I pulled a calf from a heifer 4 days ago and had the heifer and calf penned with another pair, the heifer seemed to like to chase the other calf and headbutt it so I separated the pairs. Now I have more to calve so I kicked her and her calf out and she's still head butting and chasing but not...

    Expected or acceptable losses

That's very true but I was saying that sometimes mother nature has the final say meaning sometimes there's nothing you can do or the vet, it's out of your hands.

Hahaha so if something dies it's because you didn't do enough or wasn't paying attention!

time to look for a bull

That's kinda what I thought was more shape. A 70 lb calf that's short could cause problems where as a 70 lb calf that's longer and skinny would be easier for the heifer. But being the same BW but a different CED

time to look for a bull

I guess I wasn't sure what was more important for 2nd and 3rd Calving cows CED or BW I understand I don't need a heifer bull but at the same time I thought both EPDs go hand in hand.

    Expected or acceptable losses

Everyone wants 100% but sometimes there's just only so much you can do. I had a healthy calf last night or it seemed that way and this morning it was dead.
