    Cervical Prolapse

We had one prolapsed before and after calving. Vet said post-calving hormones should help shrink the cervix but she still prolapsed again. Sewed her up where she could still function but kept her away from the bull. Will be in the freezer in a few weeks.

    Gin trash.

Ours comes in ~400-500lb bales and I arrange a trucking company to pick it up. I used a tractor trailer (81 per load) one time and tandem axle flat bed/roll back (50 per load) the last time.

    Gin trash.

I've had a change of heart. I talked to the gin operator and he said that everything gets run in air temps 200-250 degF which should volatalize any chemicals existing. I'm not sure if that's 100% correct but it's enough for me to think the majority of potential damage has been mitigated. In the...

    In-breeding prevention.

First - this isn't a big deal if the rent isn't riding on the progeny.. Trying to refine genetics to keep the best and sift out the problems? Inbreeding will do it as long as you are willing to cull. Commercial operation trying to maximize outputs? Inbreeding is the opposite of what you need...

    question about animal breeding: tribe

Always heard it takes a feminine cow to make a masculine bull. Probably the same but all non-terminal cow breeding starts with the cow for me. :)

Pretty sure you have that one turned around.

My lease guy is fixin to get some hybrid vigor and new genetics whether he wanted them or not.

Turning that thing (or any bull , really) in with my cows would be a serious problem - even if you own the place!

    Black bull- red babies

    well, since it's 50/50 black and red, there was a 25% chance to get 2 red calves out of 2. 3 of 3 .5 x .5 x .5 = 12.5% 5 of 5 .5 ^ 5 = 3% 10 of 10 = .09% "most likely" they will be 50/50 :)

can you tell if there pregnant without a palp

put an estrus alert ($1) on her. if it turns red, she isnt bred. (you will need another cow to be with her to assist in test implementation) use the BioPRYN pregnancy test. they can tell you pretty easily for under $5. http://5barx.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1284

    Depressed after calving

eating grass and grain arent exactly optimal nutrition for a 4 day old calf. is the cow that had her doing anything? **a few minutes later, i thought you were expecting the calf to do those things. apparently i should read a little more closely. sorry.

Anybody out there with Certified Organic Beef?

from everything i have read, natural is an attainable goal with a decent market. organic seems to be a very specialized field where the consumer doesnt understand how much expense goes into being certified organic. natural seems to make a lot more sense to me.
