i have a Russell field that out does my Tifton 44 or coastal, both grazing and hay and has proven to be very cold tolerant, also covers the ground faster when sprigged than the other two,it doesnt have the digestibility of 85 but more cold tolerance.
planted RR alfalfa in april 06,very fast to establish sprayed for weeds and grass 3 weeks after it was out of the ground, cut 3 cuttings hay on a very dry year and have grazed since nov. 1 .let cattle on for 30 minutes and run them off,as for cureing same or less than most alfalfa ive used before.
seeded turnip in no till drill along with ryegass on bermuda, turnips produce more early feed than ryegrass did for me,already got one grazing and 3weeks will graze again.
gberry, the turnips pictured were planted behind sudan, but i did sow some on bermuda while it was still green and came through like i had killed the bermuda back, the cattle were turned in on both types of field in 45 days after seeding .
after seeding the turnip fields ,still had seed in drill along with rye and overseeded tifton44 and looks as ever turnip seed that hit the ground came though the bermuda ,rough cost 14 dollars per acre seed, and hit with 50 units N when 3 to 5 inches tall.
hasbeen,,,,does the new clover your seeing get to 3 or 4 inchs in 6 weeks,if so its for sure the red clover as the white will be a lot slower getting up and growing early on but will gain good during the summer and fall....
