I'm with Dun,mice turn it into a motel after a few years but I fed out some hay that was over 10 years old from a freinds barn that wanted to clean it out. As long as you cut the strings(if there's any left) and shake it out, to get the droppings out they'll eat it up.

never had any trouble with it in the winter ,may get hard around the outer layer, but loosens up when you drop it in feeder. And if you slice it ,you should'nt have any trouble.

use to pull one behind a farmall to pick-up the scatterings left behind. My grand father did'nt have the best or some would say newer equipment.So we would make a windrow from the scattering and bale it up. We had baling twine tied to it from the tractor to trip the dump rake. Don't beleive...
