Last year I planted Pearl Millet where I feed. I had feed the same spot for a couple years so there was some compaction. I used a chisel plow to bust it up then disk it. Spread the seed then ran the cultipacker over it. It done great. Plan on doing the same this year.

So after this pear Millet is done what would y’all suggest to plant next? Would like to have something that would make some good fall grazing because what ever I plant want make it through winter because this is the lot where I winter cows when it gets muddy to keep from tearing up the entire farm.

This is my first year planting pearl Millet and so far I like it. I haven’t tried SS yet but might next year.

That’s how I done mine it worked good. Started grazing mine last week I think with some weaned calves. I been strip grazing it giving the calves enough for about two days.

I turned some weaned calves out on it today they went to town on it like they hadn’t ate in weeks.

I put 60 units of N when I planted it

We had a couple weeks with very little rain but we have been getting some the past few weeks. So graze it down then hit it with some more N ?

What kind do you have? Friend of mine has a Kuhn and it does ok with Johnson grass as long as you are going fast enough.

I planted mine on Friday afternoon. I spread 300 lbs of 19/19/19 per acre and disced it in. We got rain yesterday and today and it looks like rain for the next several days. I broadcasted around 40 lbs of seed per acre. We will see how it goes
