    Redneck's Guide to Hay Testing

Still would like to know how you reached this conclusion........... :?:

    Hay Quality

What kind of hay is that for $120.00 per ton? There are some good buys out there. Somebody could clean up this winter with a deal like this: http://www.bid4hay.com/aff.php?aff=776 The small square bales would bring almost enough to pay for the whole lot..... $55.00 per ton........

    shame on you

VZCR, that was a great deal on the hay. We have a lot of cheap hay this way as well. A relative of ours just sold several round bales of Coastal at $30 each. I think the original poster of this thread was hoping to make a fair deal close to her place to avoid shipping costs. At these low...

    Hay Quality

I have to chime in on this as a hay producer. We put fertilizer out in small doses, instead of hitting it with 400-500 lbs. per acre and then the rain washing it all away. The smaller doses at 2 week intervals keeps the hay fertilized and eliviates the "drenching rains washing all the nutrients...

    shame on you

Earl, We've had lots of rain that's for sure, but good drainage and a hayfield on a little higher ground don't fall victim to flooding. I got caught back in May with hay on the ground and then the rains came. Many days straight with no drying. I ended up burning that hay. The first time I ever...

    Redneck's Guide to Hay Testing

Nope we sell any grade of hay. Matter of fact I have sent some out thataway, and the folks appriciate it very much. I just see a lot of hype about hay from Texas being so drenched out of nutrients by all the rain we've had, I'm going to rebuke that every chance I get. I agree that hay that can't...

    Redneck's Guide to Hay Testing

Quote: If the grass has turned to a greenish color like above, you are looking at something worthy of consideration. If not, thump your cigarette butt over in the hay storage area and drive off cause the hay ain't worth the money. I'm wondering if when this test is complete, and you have some...

    shame on you

Quote: Having gun to your head by some guy stashing away hay for to make a killing later is not for me How much $$ is hay worth at today's prices, by the ton. Here's some already baled and ready to feed. Nobody holding back here.......... http://www.bid4hay.com/aff.php?aff=776

    finally cutting hay

We're glad to have the sunshine for a change..........dang coastal is so long, it makes 30' ropes dragging behind the tedder..... I'm thinking market hay ropes insted of hay rolls....

    Goverment Regulations

Yep, that's a place called the Mississippi Delta. It's probably the most fertile dirt in the world. Wish I had some of that for topsoil........ There's natural clays etc. that can cause oxygen depletion in water in any water body. I like Paul and all, but I've seen fish kills and barren water...

is all this rain as bad as a drought for hay

In South Texas where I grew up many years ago, there were kids 9 years of age and younger in town that had never seen rain........ When it finally did rain..........chaos in the streets!!!!

    Spraying Safety Equipment

In addition to skin protection, better use sone sort of eye protection. The label on those products give detailed information and warnings about the damage they can cause to the human body parts. 2-4,d warns about eye damage and blindness if it gets into your eyes. The chemicals are vaporized...

    Price of $@#%^& Fertilizer!

That is sure a good price, I have to pay $80.00 + per acre here. Do you spread it yourself or get someone to bring it out and spread it? :?:

Going with my gut from now on

When I was a young'un down there in South Texas on the feed lot, we would make silage by putting it into a dug out in the side of a small hill then covering it up. Same concept. Cut off the oxygen and it can't rot.

hay down and rained on after 2 days

Sorry for the bad luck there, I'm constantly amazed at the weather forcaster's inability to forcast anymore. They did much better 20-30 years ago before this "computer model" generation. Anyways, if you have one or can get your hands on a shredder (bush hog, mower) you can use it to scatter...

    Kill Stickers

If you can afford it, pour the fertilizer to it. Your bermuda will grow like crazy, and if you really pour the fertilizer to it, the stickers can't take it and will die out. That 12 acre field I posted pics of yesterday where we got 88 rolls was full of stickers when it was sprigged. There's not...

    More rain

Yep, sure does, anything to keep it turning and drying, fluffing, etc. While the tedder was broke down, I took one side of wheels off the wheel rake so it would turn the windrow over and move it over and it helped. I know its impossible with this ground as wet as it is now, rains every day...

    More rain

:( :( :( Burning it is no bueno. Check this out.....12 acres, 88 rolls. 4x5s. I wore out the tedder, rebuilt it, wore it out again shaking the water off this, but it really made good hay! Coastal Bermuda fertilized with 30-10-10 foliar between rain storms every 2 weeks till we could cut and...
