    PUT's and LRP's

When priced or compared the two, the price and protection was the exact same so I went with the PUT. That was with the assumption you have exactly 50% heifers and 50% steers. Going with the PUT leaves me the ability to sell my calves and the put early if i choose or delay sale of both. A...

    PUT's and LRP's

Went with a PUT in June. Its worth/value is currently a little over 4X the purchase price. Hindsight being what is it, I should have waited until late summer to mid September to purchase one. Im happy enough with the floor its created but obviously I'd take the higher prices we had in August...

    PUT's and LRP's

With current feeder futures nearing record highs, how many are purchasing LRP's or PUT's? When priced out an LRP, it seemed to follow or replicate the equivalent PUT price and protection when comparing 50,000 lbs. Havent purchased anything yet but I'm leaning towards a PUT option.

Cull Cow Market seems to have softened

Seems like with current feeder prices and feeder futures, the bred and bred cull cow market should have more life in it that its currently showing. Anyone else finding the same in their part of the country?

    Sale or hold ‘em?

November 2023 futures on the CME broke $2.06 today. Provided the world economy (or at least in the largest consumer countries) doesn't crap out, its looking more optimistic.

    Sale or hold ‘em?

http://www.hubcitylivestock.net/index.cfm?show=10&mid=6 Aberdeen SD last week. Steers from 479 for $2.28 - 608 for $2.00 Heifers 498 $197, 540 $1.98 I’d hold them, I think we’re on the up swing from already good prices.

    Recent Feeder Market

I think it'll come back quicker than 2 years. prices still aren't bad. Just not as great as they appear due to current inputs. If history repeats itself, high commodity prices will result in grain farmers (world wide) going all in on corn, taking up pasture and every piece of dirt that can grow...

    Drought pair sales

What percentage of these pairs are going back on pasture and whats going to a lot or a packer? Will most of them be in production next year or are they kill cows with calves going to the yard?

    market options, calls and puts

How many of you use puts and call options as part of your risk protection. Have you had an experience with them, good or bad? Feeders seemed to have rallied and wondering if now is a good time to lock in a floor price while leaving the top side open?

Is the drought shrinking the nations herd yet and if so to what extent?

Looking spot on at least with the grain rally, old crop corn broke $7 overnight. Feeders have taken a beating over the past 7-10 days. With the price of corn its surprising they haven't taken it worse.

Is the drought shrinking the nations herd yet and if so to what extent?

Looking pretty accurate on the grain price rally, Old crop corn broke $7 over night before settling just below.

Is the drought shrinking the nations herd yet and if so to what extent?

https://www.agriculture.com/weather/news/dry-conditions-got-worse-in-many-top-corn-growing-states I imagine this has the potential to beat up feeder prices and/or pull them higher with the grains if consumption maintains.

Is the drought shrinking the nations herd yet and if so to what extent?

Just looking at the drought monitor and was wondering how long until you see herds start to liquidate faster than normal (like 2012)? I imagine when it starts it'll flood the market with cheap beef but in the longer term, maybe there will be a stronger upswing in the feeder market and bred market?

Is the drought sending cows to the sales barn soon then they would otherwise find themselves there yet?

    Cow turnover rate

If you not retaining any of your heifers, there's no use in buying anything other than the most average bull out there being the genetics are heading out the driveway every year.
