Live Cattle and Feeder Cattle Limits increased

More liquidity equates to better prices in average and over time ... because when times are bad, it increases the odds one can get OUT of a position they no longer want to be in. So, yes, more P/L for the desk jockeys ... but without liquidity (and volatility) there is no price discovery...

    Chiangus Cattle in Tx

The Chi association has some pretty relaxed ideas about their breed purity. To wit ... I think if in 1978 a fullblood Chi bull sneezed on a cow (who was bred by a bull of a different breed) before she boarded a trailer heading to a large commercial operation (where she lived a long and...

What's a reasonable price to you as the buyer?

...not an unreasonable clarification. Thanks for pointing it out. I'm more inclined to be more patient with heifers than with bulls. And the heifers I'm being patient with ate the ones I'm selling at discounted prices to let someone else coax them along. If they're staying here, I want them to...

What's a reasonable price to you as the buyer?

Why not cut an ET bull calf? If it's not up to snuff, it's not up to snuff. An Aubrac breeder friend of mine cut all six ET bull calves he had one year because he didn't like one thing or another about them. Those were some pricey steers, but he thought that was more important than...

What's a reasonable price to you as the buyer?

45 days ...and to everyone else, the recips I've bought like this from this seller have done a quite fine job for us.

What's a reasonable price to you as the buyer?

Yes, looking at future recips ... buying out of a fall calving herd. Breeder has a tight live cover window; his best opens (cows only, no open heifers) the next spring are available to me as recip candidates.

What's a reasonable price to you as the buyer?

Are your girls registered? How old/big are the calves? I'm trying to figure out the value of a group of open-but-definitely-take-them-back-to-the-farm type of mama cows.

What's a reasonable price to you as the buyer?

Criteria: 1 - Currently open, with or without a calf at its side (obviously those with a calf will cost a bit more) 2 - 3yrs to 7yrs old ... at least one good calf raised all the way to weaning per year starting with their third birthday (calve at two, wean at nearly three ... etc ...) 3 - Good...

    Interesting ways to sell bulls

To try to get the thread back on point ... I was thinking about having a lottery system. You pay money to get a number, then when Bull #1 is up, I pull a number out of the hat and you get your bull. Isn't that a good idea?!

    Interesting ways to sell bulls

I just had a conversation similar to this earlier this week ... there is great logic in buying someone's proven bull they're ready to retire ... vs. buying a virgin bull out of a 1st time heifer who herself was out of a virgin heifer ... I type this while thinking about my old cows at home (13...

    Interesting ways to sell bulls

Here's another -- http://www.hofmannsimmental.com/bull-sale/ -- some bulls in the catalog are sold at a fixed price in a modified private treaty approach and some are sold via traditional auction with a minimum opening price. This approach to selling bulls takes place over a whole week.
