    Just wow 🤩

What do yall see 7 and 8 weight steers doing this fall?
  2. ClinchValley86

Backyard grassers must have come to the sale.

Am I reading that right? 9 weight steers were over $3? And same for heifers? Canadian money or US money? I forget who is Canadian.

They better be watching them back roads!

    Close to $2.00 killer bulls

I sold around a 900 pound momma for burger this winter. It hung around 500 pounds and they said they got about 225 pounds of ground. She was pretty lean, but not thin.

Price wise I think it's about the same there vs here. These cheap bred heifers down here for the most part look bred too early. Or that's probably the worry as to why they go so cheap? That's my figuring anyway. The nice one still command a pretty good price all thing considered. If they...

These cheap pairs didn't appear sick to me. But my luck... they'd have a few bolts in the gut and never would gain again. Had they been month old calves I might have tried it. Didn't look like they had their feet figured out yet.

I studied business in college, relationship between supply and demand usually ring true with most everything. I don't see how it could be much eofferent with cattle right now and the next 12 to 36 months. There are a tremendous amount of cattle going for slaughter still every single week. The...

It's gonna be risk regardless, youre absolutely right. . I've made money taking risk my whole adult life. Just haven't done it much with cows. Sometimes it works, sometimes it hurts. 😃. @Warren Allison - Im content at the stockbarn anymore. Kinda got the rhyme and reason figured out. And i...

From what I've been seeing here thin pound cows are around 1.00 weighing 900 to 1100. Fat cows are 1.30 to 1.40 weighing 1300 to 1600. My luck though the slaughter market would drop as soon as I was ready to sell them. I do like the thought of thin breds. I feel like it's almost a guarantee...

Will be mid May when I make a move. Need to keep animals long enough to make 1 pass across the hay fields to delay timing of first cut to give me some flexibility. Got the beefs going end of this month and will dump calves between now and then. Figure I'd be best to bring the calves up your...

    Heifers

The spread is great enough that I'm considering doing the same. I've seen little rhyme or reason for the price difference across heifers. Some do good and some don't. And they look the same to me. I figure they'd nitpick mine...

@Warren Allison - The bull is coming along nicely. That's a big part of wanting to get a class that needs breeding. I'm hesitant to put him on salebarn cows on account of STDs... is that a reasonable worry? I do have a decent black homeraised SimAngus I could use on salebarn cows if that's the...

I'd be curious to hear what they bring at the sale if ya think to report back.

They seem to be much cheaper at the two sales I've been attending. Colored heifers around 800 pounds around $2 if I'm remembering correctly. If not cheaper. But like you said, there haven't been many of them. On the other hand, young thin breds have been 1300 to 1800. Takes a real good one to...

So long, Willy! Looking forward to the replacements name. 😃

With the low cattle numbers and soon-to-be high replacement prices, I have been kicking around the idea of buying well built yearling heifers to turn into breds then sell. Or buy young pairs what're open. Would this be a good play potentially? What's a good alternative move. Breeding cattle...

They're wanting stuff to kill bad ain't they. I was buying and thought they were a little less high than what they've been being for what I was after.

Calves held strong today at Knoxville. I couldn't tell any difference. Pound cows were a touch lower. Except for a few nice char cows that were 1500 to 1800 pounds. They were 1.50+ IIRC. Replacements were still dirt cheap compared to everything else.

    Slaughter cows and bulls.

It just seems crazy to me to sell them in their prime like that. It's all perspective and goals I reckon.
