    A NO--Go Bull

I turn my hereford bull out on brahman cows in June/July when it's hot. Cows are out all day grazing and you can never find the bull anywhere but laying under a tree. 9 months later all the cows are calving so he is smart enough to go to work when it's cooler at night.

What Would You do With This Cow?

That's why I don't carry my .45 with me when I'm working the cows cause I wouldn't have any left!

    Black leg disease

My vet reccommends booster every two years for black leg. I learned this when I lost one of my best cows to blackleg...she was 7 years old.

    Beef production and the environment

I believe years from now people will look back at this whole CO2 deal and carbon credits/cows destroying the world with methane gas/etc. and laugh...what a hoax! Numbers of scientists debunking the who CO2 thing is growing.

    help on cattle breed

Plenty of previous discussions on here about this subject...just search brahman/tigerstripe/F-1. I have red brahman and hereford bull as part of my herd. Brahman are more expensive than hereford cows but they will last longer and lessen risk of calving problems. Unless you are experienced...

    Pipeline Easement

Had a pipeline company knock on my door last year wanting to put in a pipeline. We did the research and found that for most properties it doesn't devalue that much. I believe you can put a road in over the top just no buildings. Anyway, they wanted to survey the property. I told them o.k...

    Is this a Scam

Think about it...Why doesn't the seller just take it down to the auction house, put a minimum sale price of 20K(or more) and do a lot better than selling to you?

    Stunted heifer

It wouldn't hurt to take pelvic measurements before you breed her.

    Brahmans......

LOL! Actually this was my attempt at humor...my wife and her camera just happened to catch this cow with her mouth open looking like a doberman. Reality is that she is one of the more docile of my herd of brammers...I tagged her calf while standing against her side, no problem. They are not...

    Brahmans......

Anybody willing to put an ear tag on this bray-mer's calf?

    Feeder Steer Operation

Talkin about radical changes in the marketplace...last week I attended a conference on incorporating legumes. Several hundred ranchers showed up. All the talk was about legumes and native grass...puttin down fertilizer and baling hay just aint cutting it this year.

    New tiger pups...

It would help if the brammer replacement heifers were not so high dollar...especially if you are selective in what you buy. I have also thought about finishing out the steers and marketing the beef myself. The quality yield on the few we have done is not reflected at the sale barn.

    New tiger pups...

You are correct...it is expensive going this route. I have looked at going to AI with sexed-semen to improve the numbers. Years with more heifers sure help!

    New tiger pups...

I don't have a pic of the bull except on my old PC that crashed. When I get a chance I'll take a new one and post.

    New tiger pups...

These are all reg. brahmans bred to a reg. polled hereford bull. So far it's nearly an even split bull/heifer calves. All calves have been under 75 pounds.

    New tiger pups...

About half the calves are showing a brindle look already but probably none of those made the pics. The donks are pets of the wife and daughters...otherwise they'd be on a plate in Paris!

    New tiger pups...

Tried the upload function this time but it only would allow 3 pics...

    New tiger pups...

Here are some of this year's crop of F-1's...mostly all calved except a couple of heifers left. I don't know if I got the pics right or not. If not I'll try again... http://www.ranchers.net/photopost/data/ ... C_2135.jpg http://www.ranchers.net/photopost/data/ ... C_2120.jpg...

    Young Bull

Slap some heat detector stickers on their butts if you have 3 weeks to wait it out.

    Longhorns...

She's big enough. Do what bobcat says. I wouldn't go to the trouble of trying to halter break a 2 year old if you don't plan on showing.
