Take a look at my girls

Very very few. Calhoun I sent ya an email. Perfect is a relative term anyways. What one person see's as perfect is not what someone else will see.

    Angus Genetic Condition Update

Lucky is correct and if you look back on his mothers pedigree you see Rito 9J9 who was a carrier of AM so his mother was a carrier even if she had never been tested.

    Angus Genetic Condition Update

Thank you for posting this. I hadn't seen where the AAA had started allowing carrier females to be registered again. I knew back a couple of years ago they tried to get rid of the gene entirely by not allowing animals(females) to be registered if they were carriers.

    BW in Angus breed

I think I am in the same boat as most of you. bse you are definitely right about the "calving ease" bulls will definitely outsell the moderate ones. I tend to not be as worried about it myself I like to focus more on yearly and weaning weight myself. Sure I want small calves as birth...

One of the biggest cows I've ever seen

I agree with insurman on this one. Bet they can burn through some hay and grain.

    BW in Angus breed

Ok I see people all the time selling animals on craigslist or in sale catalogs that they call calving ease bulls, heifer bulls, etc.. My question is to fellow Angus breeders is what do you consider a heifer/calving ease bull (Its kinda an oxymoron since angus have small calves anyways)? And...

    AI bulls

Howdy Calhoun, I am just going to sent you the link to the location so you can read about it. Honestly I see it as just another way genetic companies can make a little more money but take a look at it. http://www.angus.org/Pub/DD/DDInfo.aspx Is just a simple recessive genetic condition...

    AI bulls

Just on a side note. If you are a registered herd now, you are going to want to get that bull tested for DD. I have like half my herd that I need to test since that came out but I will wait a while to see which animals come back as carriers and which don't. I know they found that the...

    Angus Bull Butt

Now that is a heck of a cow. Really good. Looks like ya got a good calf out of her too.

    Angus $EN

Actually as long as there is at least one common ancestor in the lineage then yes the animal is officially inbred. No matter how small the actual inbreeding is.

Yeah you can probably do well with him then. I think he is a great choice for ya. Good luck with him. When you get ready to sell some of those heifers let me know I would like to take a look at them.

    Angus $EN

Didn't say it was a lot of inbreeding most do range between 1-5% but there is a little. Thats just how it is. You did pick out one of the bulls. Traveler 23-4, another would be Rito N Bar, Emulation 31, and probably Tehama Bando 155. It really just depend on how far back you want to go to...

    AI bulls

Hey Calhoun, I only asked because this bull is really good by numbers(for what they are worth to ya) if the calves are going to be sold at weaning, or through the feedlot if you are retaining the ownership. He should put on some good marketable pounds on your cattle, I don't know your cattle...

Hey Calhoun, How are you marketing your calves? That is the most important question.

    AI bulls

Chuck that would probably be Mohnen Brushpopper. Love that name, bull has decent numbers for a nine year old. But guess numbers really depend on how you are selling calves. Looks good maternally though. Pretty sure I spelled that wrong but thats ok.

Honestly the Association can't explain it to you either. And they will not tell you how its calculated either. I talk to professors daily that worked closely with them to develop some of those indexes and thats the one that is ever changing and no one I know can figure out who came up with it...

    Best Breed For Me

I am going to agree with Chuckie here. The part of the state where I am Angus rule the roost so thats what I went with, now grant it I raise registered stock but they will get me the best price. Hey Chuck what part of the state are you in?

    What would you do?

Wouldn't really think it would matter, I would take it as this must be a good bull if the previous owner wants semen to use after the bull is gone. It would actually give me a little confidence in my decision to buy him in that case. Sounds like an honest cattleman to me, I hope the industry...
