    Down Under NZ Murray Greys

I have a Beefmaster (Shorthorn derivative) crossed with an Angus that looks like a Murray Grey

    For all you Brimmer Pimps

I like my Brahman influence via Beefmaster.

    Hereford talk

Hereford Talk used to be a good forum. I really enjoyed checking it daily, but when all the banning and deleting began, it was really off putting.

    What I've been breeding towards

Who’s the daddy of that bull?

    Beefmaster

I have had a few of that cross. I have one now that is going on 14 and still looking good

    Beefmaster or Santa Gertrudis

Beefmaster all the way. They are the best Brahman derivative that I have been around. They are docile.

    Straightbreeding Angus

I’m going to try this Simmental thing with a Fleckvieh bull that I traded my friend for. I might get knocked a few cents a pound for some coming out red, but they will weigh a little more. I will probably rotate back to a black Angus bull when this bull is done.

    Sim blaze=$$

It is the same here in South Carolina. A calf with just a blaze or baldie face and the rest black will bring with the best. If you add white socks or a featherneck, you will be down there with the Jerseys and LongHorns pricewise.

    A round of pictures

Do I see a little Ohlde influence in those bulls?

    Negative $EN

That might be true, but I have not been exposed to many in my neck of the woods.I would live to get ahold to some Beckton genetics though.

    Negative $EN

The last 2 Angus bulls that I used were +$EN. The positive $EN Angus bulls (for the most part) just look like what Angus bulls are supposed to look like. They gave me some moderate sized heifers off of some larger cows that I had. I wouldn’t stack the genetics of positive $EN in a herd too deep...

Dipping into the world of SimAngus

Didn’t Tim Ohlde import some Fleck Simmentals years back? I know that he has a herd of FleckAngus cattle. I think that I saw a video where he said that he found a smaller framed stout bloodline of Flecks in Austria and Bavaria.

Dipping into the world of SimAngus

It seems like most people in my neck of the woods now have either Simangus or Simmental bulls as they do Angus bulls. I just traded my Angus bull to my friend for his Fleck Simmental a few months ago. I wanna try this thing out for a couple of years.

    Cattle Association Field Day

I have done something very similar with a fella years ago when I was young. I had a sick cow and he pinned her against the wall with a gate and said hold this gate while he shot her up with LA200 and penicillin.

Planning for Baldys or Baldies - of either colour, best path ?

If you had a some black cows that have had a calf or two, a Fleck bull like the one I just got could make you some baldies.

Select Grade on the Way Out?

Amen, that is the gospel truth. Choice is the easy answer for the culinary disabled. Select makes you use your cooking skills. Choice is mainly due to the influence of the British breeds. The people in the British Isles (almost 90% of my ancestry is from there) don’t have a great culinary...

Black is out, Red & White is in

I don’t even turn my Black Angus bull out into my spring calving “Bahia” herd until the first of June. Most black bulls that I have had go work the “night shift” when it comes to breeding during the summer, but not this bull. The place that my “Bahia” herd is on is sandwiched by ordained...

Black is out, Red & White is in

They sure are throwing all Angus bulls under the bus for temperament. My last two bulls have been Ohlde sired Angus bulls and they and their calves have been as laid back as any Herefords that I have had. For a matter of fact, the closest that I ever came to getting linebackered by a cow was by...
