  1. Charbrangus

    Considering a Charolais bull again.

I used a 1/2 Charolais 1/2 Brangus bull. Great bull over angus cows. All my calves grew well. I sold him last month. He was 6 and weighed 2300 lbs. Only reason I sold him is that I kept all of his heifers but 1 and will keep every heifer born out of him out of the next crop of calves. I replaced...

    Black Simmental

Sewell Farms in Chipley Florida has good Simmental/Simangus bulls. I bought a 3/4 Sim 1/4 bull to put over my Brangus/Char cows.

    Bull for Brangus Cows

I am in North Florida, gets really hot. I prefer angus cows to Brangus, I have both. The Angus tend to breed back sooner than the Brangus. Heat doesn't seem to bother them.

    New Hereford Calves

I sold 2 half brothers last week. One weighed 535 and was black with a white spot on his face, brought 245 a lb. The other was white with a black nose, weighed 615 brought 190. The white calf honestly was the nicer calf. The black calf brought $1310.75 and the white calf brought $1168.50. The...

    New Hereford Calves

In Florida the market loves black baldie but will kill you with a red calf. Anything red will bring from 10 to 30 cent less per pound.

    Cow Longevity

I have her in the pen with a heifer I am keeping this year, feeding her. I can tell that she is bred, hoping she give me one more heifer.

    Cow Longevity

I have a cow that is 16. Thinking about selling her because or her age. She still has good calves just longer times in between. Use to she had a calf every 11 to 12 months. Right now she is at 15 months. I have kept several of her calves, best mommas I have. Think I am going to give her one more...

    Brahma cross

One thing about brindle cows (that what we call tiger strip in North Florida, the never seem to get sick, they always raise good calves. They are hard to beat. A good Angus bull over them makes good calves. A Brangus or Brangus x Angus (I forgot the name they have given them) would be great...

    Killing the Little Man

Right now most of my cows are Brangus, and angus. I have a couple that are Braunvieh/Angus and Braunvieh/Baldy. My bull is half Char/Brangus . He has been great but he is getting some age and I want to keep heifers. I went away from Angus because they didnt grow off like I wanted them too...

Has anyone tried Salers in a hot climate? I know they are good in cold weather but what I read it appears they function ok in a hot climate.

    Santa Gertrudis Bulls?

You would be ruining good Cattle. The experience I have had with Santa Gertrudis is you had better sell the calves immediately at weaning or put them on full feed. They do not do good on just grass. If you want to go that direction get a Beefmaster. I am in Florida and heat is an issue here. Go...

    Brangus calves

At $500.00 each if you have plenty of grass I don't see how you can loose. In Florida we would say that the bull is a braford cross. The calves definitely have some Brahma influence which is a good thing. They have just enough to not hurt them but enough to make them grow.
  19. Charbrangus

    SimHereford yearling bull.

I like him. Would like to see a little more in the rear. When I change bulls this is pretty much what I will be looking for.
