    proud cut

cross Ive been around horses most of my life..we've had foals to grown horses, all sexes..There is a difference in a lack of training or mis-handling..and out and out aggression..and based on your description, this horse is what Id call "mean"..hes not scared, hes a jackass..hes learned being...

    Sleeping Rabbit Ranch

I had an old mare who was King Glo bred..also had Doc Bar and Poco Bueno on her actual papers..Leo one gen. off. I put her down last summer, as her bum leg was bothering her more and more. Still have her daughter, a solid buckskin paint..going to gentle her this year..think she'll make a nice...

Why every kid needs a good horse and cattle...

thanks for the suggestion FJ. :) He does ride her in a curb..I have few tricks up my sleeve for teaching her. I can get her to neckrein..but it's off of leg..not rein. His leg isnt as strong as mine. :) 4-h county show is in 2 weeks..he's wanting to take her. Think Ill let him show the big QH...

Why every kid needs a good horse and cattle...

Good memories Chippie..from 12 years old and on, I spent my teen years on a horse..those were some good good memories for me. While Casey isnt in the boarding stable atmosphere like I grew up in..he does have friends who ride..him and two other boys about his age are usually the only boys at...

Why every kid needs a good horse and cattle...

When I grew up Cross, we to earned our stirrups..granted, I rode English...but we still had too..made for sore legs. ;) That pasture is in the process of being grubbed now..but yep, he probably would have benefited from some chaps..those mesquites are awful..might look into some tapederos for...

Why every kid needs a good horse and cattle...

He had a ball..My husband just got back from the desert..which made it even more fun for my kiddo..spending time with his dad. :) Cross-I thought of something else..the kid always has his feet "home" in the stirrups..drives me bonkers, but I learned long ago I cant teach him..;)..I have a new...

Why every kid needs a good horse and cattle...

Appreciate the advice Cross..the rope was "for show"..he isnt allowed to rope off of horseback yet..but he still likes to have it on his saddle..this particular time, he was holding that rope for his dad.. The stirrups are actually a good fit..the ones that came with the saddle were super tight...

Why every kid needs a good horse and cattle...

I could find a handful of things he's doing wrong..but the fact he was out, on his pony (yes, she is only about 13 hands)..helping his dad made me decide to put away my instructor cap for the day and let him enjoy himself. :) This was the pony's first time on cattle too..shes a tough gal...

    look at this horse

cant gauge much off of caca pictures..he is standing strange in them all..could be a physical issue, could be something else. Ive owned afew horses who came to be down in the heels..its not a big deal..a good farrier can get them right after afew trims of gradually taking back the toe to help...

    SO MANY bits... http://www.reinsman.co/catalog/store.cg ... CK=A0001A1 :) easy way to measure http://horses.about.com/od/bitsexplaine ... urebit.htm although I've found most "average" sized horses take a 4 1/2"-5" bit

Need Help Finding a Good Stud to Breed To

true.. Even if I worked on horseback, Id take something bred like my sorrel mare over a hancock..but again..personal preference. :)..I can drink my coffee and not spill a drop while she jogs out.. Alot of the real modern horses arent good for doing actual work..I agree 100%..had a rancher...

Need Help Finding a Good Stud to Breed To

Ah, but some horses lines are proven at producing the form which fits a certain function..and so bloodlines ARE something to be considered..espc. when buying a young prospect or breeding. Bloodlines dont gurantee what you get..but IME, they make breeding less of a crapshoot...I'll put my hard...

Need Help Finding a Good Stud to Breed To

I am still out on Hancock horses..They make good working ranch horses and roping horses..but I just havent seen them really break into the reining and cutting..at a competitive level at least. The ones Ive been around, save one, could be kinda broncy and hardheaded at times too...I sold a son...

Need Help Finding a Good Stud to Breed To

Its really neat to "make your own"..as in riding your own horses. We have two fillies who will be gentled this winter that are our horses..its neat to ride these horses, a product of your program..and I know for me, these two fillies are the remains of our breeding program. We bred for awhile...

Need Help Finding a Good Stud to Breed To

Firstly, my advice is always breed to the absolute best you can afford..and IMO, that means if only one mare gets bred per year..but you have a stellar baby..its a good year. These mares are bred abit different. the top mare looks to have abit of speed/foundation on her..while the bottom mare...

    A short video-the stop

I never ride her any other way then back to front..:) She is making steady progress towards lightness..the softness is almost there..this pony works best with a "wait it out"..set the boundry and drive forward til she comes into your hand..you try to micromanage and bully her and you end up...
