    Calving season 2022 for me

Thank you for sharing as you have some good looking cattle.

    Breeding issue

It has been two full weeks since I gave them the information and have not been called me back. I will chalk it up as a lesson learned and never do business with them again. One positive is the open registered I purchased had a pretty good looking bull calf. Is it against the rules to post the...

    Weaning weights

Congrats to your guy for doing what he does. Is he doing what Warren says he is doing and driving all over or going to local sales and getting best available? Wondering if we are comparing apples to apples.

    Weaning weights

How do you know it would be better? Is there a history of poor cattle being delivered? If buyer is happy and makes money who cares. Are insurance agents or car salesmen thieves for charging more than someone else?

    Weaning weights

I must have missed something. Buyer asks someone to find cattle and cuts him a check for total amount they will pay. When cattle are delivered the buyer is happy with what he received. We have two happy parties in a deal. What is missing? Not trying to stir pot but if one guy is successful...

    Breeding issue

Thanks for the reply. They called me today to get all the information. I asked them to let me know if they do or do not offer anything in this type of situation. They will be getting back with me.

    Breeding issue

The registered was open when I purchased her but the three commercial were all bred safe according to their vet with calving dates. Two of the commercials had calves but the third never did and still hasn't. The third was due back in September. The registered has been with our bull for a year...

    Breeding issue

Not a bull issue as other cows continue to have calves.

    Breeding issue

I purchased a few bred commercial heifers and also an open registered heifer from a "reputable" seller via auction last year. Only two have calved and the open still appears to be open. What have your experiences been when letting the seller know what is going on?

    Heifer

I used 3 CED bull on heifers with no issues. Maybe I was extremely lucky but that was my experience. When I purchased the bull the CED was higher but adjusted lower over time.

    Stacking low birth weight genetics

How about all of the things being discussed effects the size of the calf and we never know which percent of those factors effects it the most as each cow and environment is different. If we knew exactly what we would be getting from each mating I personally think it could get very boring. FWIW...

    Weaning naturally

I should have worded that differently as I tend to agree. But, what if it happens once or twice and not in back to back years? Assuming she produces a good calf every time.

What do you consider moderate performance? Does one need to sell a cow that calves every 12-14 months?

Does breed matter? I ask in case I am missing something.

    Weaning naturally

Yes, we could and even though we have enough space we don't have the strong facility yet. The bull would go into a separate field but that hasn't kept him and neighbors bull to the south or the north from tearing down fences. Most of our calves are born in the spring but about 15-20% have...
