    Dragging Hind leg

3 yr old Nursing momma cow was in good shape 3 days ago, and now she is dragging her right hind leg. Not on every step though, she'll take 4 or 5 steps bending the hock and walking without a limp, and then the leg will go stif and drag straight (locking up the hock and rolling the toe under)...

Weak Calf - One closed eye

The calf is doing a little better on milk replacer, i was also able to get some electrolytes down him this a.m... thanks for the tip. I gather that momma has mastitis and that is why the calf's eye was shut. Didn't see her trying to kick but her teats are in bad shape and her bag is real...

Weak Calf - One closed eye

Thanks a ton... I fished around in the eye a little and sure enough it opened not long after... I got some milk replacer in him through a bottle with a hose, the nipple style bottle didn't work. I am hoping to get the calf going on a nipple style bottle though. Any suggestions for getting the...

    Prolapsed Vagina

Now the mama's penned up, with hay down, in a confined spot with a head catch on one end. We can see contractions about every 15 minutes, & she pushes out about a cup of blood each time. Is that normal? Never really saw the water break but there has been a lot of blood/slime. Suchure...

    Prolapsed Vagina

Ploughman's wife here, writing for him since he's at the pasture. The mama cow is laying on her side, getting up, pacing, staying away from the herd, walking with a slightly haunched back. So at what point during her labor should he cut the stitches for her to be able to deliver? Thanks!

    Prolapsed Vagina

She stitched her with 3 sets of loops parallel straight down the sides of the vulva. The trouble was too much space @ the bottom. She (the vet) left about 4 inches or so open for her to urinate. This left enough room for the prolaps to slide out again. I added the fourth set of loops making 8...

    Prolapsed Vagina

Well she prolapsed again last night or this morning. The vets stitches held but there weren't enough to hold it all in. I had to add a coupld of extra down the vulva. It took until evening to get her in the pen and I had to stitch her up a little tighter than the vet. I hope it holds this...

    Prolapsed Vagina

Thanks for all the help! The vet was out, we stitched her up and she looks like she could be a few weeks before calving. (I hope). The vets advise is the same as what I've been hearing here on the boards and on other articles I found in the search. Sell her asap, she will probably prolaps...

Thank you all so much for the helpful info. The vet is saying the same thing. She will be out to the pasture this evening to see what can be done. Again, I really appreciate your help.

    Prolapsed Vagina

Its calving time and I saw the prolaps for the first time this morning... slightly bigger than a grapefruit and her hind end is a little dirty...is there a chance that she will still be able to calv on her own? She is acting normal, eating, etc. She is a 5+ year old Charolais bread by a Sante...
