    Does Anybody Know?

Does anybody know if you can feed cattle the horse supplement Sho Glo? I thought about supplementing the show cows with it, but want to be sure it is safe. This is what it says about it: This all-in-one supplement enhances the nutritional value of any feed and contains yeast culture for...

Clatskanie Police Officer Joe Harrison, a nine-year veteran of the department, has resigned after admitting he stole prescription medications from two Clatskanie homes last month, according to court records and Clatskanie Police Chief Marvin Hoover. Harrison, 34, was booked into the Columbia...

If you're a member of a breed association...

Every May we have a White Elephant Auction and BBQ at the first show. It's always a lot of fun. All proceeds go to the Juniors. A while back, we had a field day at one of the members' houses'. It was for the Juniors, and if you wanted, you could go the afternoon before and spend the night. We...

    Early going difficulties

It sounds like everyone has been having problems this year. We lost a yearling a few weeks ago. The first calf this year was born fine, we just had to put him in the barn. Second calf was too big, about 90 pounds out of a heifer. Had to have a C-Section done. Calf is fine, but the cow was down...

We have not introduced her to her calf. She doesn't have any milk, either. She is a Pinzgauer, not a Shorthorn.

Who says state troopers dont have a sense of humor?

This really appeared in a Montana newspaper. In most of the United States there is a policy of checking on any stalled vehicle on the highway when temperatures drop to single digits or below. About 3am one very cold morning, a Montana State Trooper responded to a call there was a car off the...

    Twins?

Thank you. That's what I was thinking. Not all the ribs are showing. I know what fat is. She definitely does not look like the BCS 3 picture. Personally, I think you're being way too quick to judge things. I am not saying she isn't thin, I'm just saying she's not as thin as a BCS of 3. I...

She is still down. Still eating and drinking just fine. She moves her legs some, but doesn't get up. We're going to try lifting her with the sling tonight and see how that goes.

    Twins?

I appreciate all of the helpful replies. From what I've looked at, she's a 4, maybe 5. On a couple sites, 4 is considered "borderline".

    Twins?

I can see the difference between a thin and fat cow, I don't need you to point that out to me. I don't know how you can see that the rest of the cattle are thin from those pictures. I think you're being way too quick to judge. I too have seen a lot worse.

    Calf Trouble

Do you have minerals available to the cows? Maybe they are deficient in some kind of vitamin or mineral, like selenium. Maybe give the calves a shot of BoSe and vitamins A and D after birth. Are they getting colostrum? If they are too weak to stand and nurse, they probably aren't.

She was up when we put her into the trailer to take her to the vet's. She fell on the way there and didn't get up after that. To "load" her, we made a ramp/sled thing out of plywood with boards on the bottom. We put it like a ramp to the trailer, put a strap behind her and pulled her onto it...

Yes, she is. Her head is up and she is very alert. When you push on her, she swings her head around to try to hit you. She has been crawling around and moving her legs. She has started trying to get up. The shot they gave for tomorrow is Banamine.

We picked her up from the vet's today. She still hasn't gotten up yet. She has been sort of crawling around the stall she was in, and now tries to get up. They say she's getting better every day. They don't want us trying to lift her with the sling for another 5 days, because of the incision...
