    Nurse cow or not. Thoughts

@Double R Ranch -you had talked before about your Aberdeen experiment if I remember correctly. Well, this is my 6 year old half-Aberdeen half brangus, calves are 4 months old. Red one is hers-beefmaster cross, black one is an opportunist 50-ish percent Aberdeen from a heifer that hasn’t milked...

    Data centers

Wonder who he’ll get to donate money for everyone not working? I guess his DOGE plan was to eliminate unnecessary population as well as jobs.

    Data centers

Speaking of the wind farms, the father of a lady I work with has one windmill on his land east of here. He has received a nice rent check from the wind company for a windmill that never turned, so never produced generation dividends. That wind farm is now blowing up several windmills and...

    Data centers

The data centers are for the AI. So, to compound the water issue here specifically, we also have SpaceX test facility within 2-3 miles of the proposed data center complex. For noise mitigation, SpaceX uses water cannons, to the tune of 169 million gallons three years ago (with 3 stands and 3...

    Data centers

    Hope that’s the case.

    Data centers

Shoot, won’t have any water left by then. There is no “open room” space, so it will be another disposal cluster.

    Data centers

Only 30 permanent on a 500 acre area. Dollar tree provides more jobs on 2 acres. The construction crews will mostly be brought in-so will need temporary housing that will be unused after they leave. Next?

    Feeding a Corriente steer

That is really lean-good to hear about being tender

    Data centers

Well, our illustrious city council (minus one member with a spine) just passed sale of land to a data center company in a closed door special called council meeting. @farmerjan, I know Virginia has been overrun with the damn things. In the Waco area, (20mileradius) there are now 4 planned, one...

    Dairy cross finish?

taste is about the same so far (limited sample), maybe a little less “beefy” for the dairy? Definitely tender though. We just had pan-seared Denver steaks, so not a huge comparison.

    Screw worm northern limit

Agreed. The larvae are in the animal, the pupae end up in the dirt

    Dairy cross finish?

Haven’t had one of the dairy yet, will let you know tomorrow 😉

    Screw worm confirmed

Yep-very familiar with resistance in goats. Nothing works in some areas because of constant exposure to antiparasitics.

    Screw worm confirmed

My other thought is the withdrawal needed for Ivomec. I saw some blurb today about adding it to feed? Granted, feedlots should have lower screw worm potential closer to processing age. Wonder if pre-worked calves will bring a real premium now, since the risk decreases without open wounds?

    Dairy cross finish?

One last photo-dairy cross vs Beltie, approximately same age at processing. Beltie was first year on pasture alone, 6 months with added feed. Dairy x was out with him from 7 months of age to processing-about a year of pasture/feed. I never pushed to “full feed” in a restricted lot, this was...

    A thought

I’ve seen sale videos with entire pens full of fat cows like this. Maybe they exceeded processor weight max and they now have to find another sale option? I would definitely think intentionally fed vs just bad management
