    Who to breed to.....

Makes sense. I think the biggest bull in question right now is how people use Rampage. I have a Rampage son and have nothing but docile results to this point. I know there are some people that will avoid them like the plague.

    Anyone Crossing Brangus and Braford?

I agree. Stuff like that would get discounted down here in Central Florida. Personally I like the terminal breeding of Charolais and I bought myself a couple this year to cross with my angus bull.

    Fence Staple Gun

My experience with our staple gun would indicate that you would need a bigger reservoir than 1.5 gallons. We have a 20 gallon compressor and carry a generator and compressor on a trailer. Last time we worked on fence, we had a whole rig setup to unwind fence, staple and posts, everything all...

    Foot rot

Thank you everyone for your help and information. Looks like more wet weather is going to hit us this weekend with a tropical depression. Just in time for deworming on Saturday! YAY!

    Foot rot

So we are dealing with Foot Rot for the first time in 40 years of raising cattle here in Central Florida. It has been plenty wet, but 10 days before Hurricane Dorian acted like he was coming here it got dry, then our cattle had the issue. The cattle are on pasture and have full access to the...

    Starting your herd over again

Down here in Florida there are certainly some challenges that must be met. We are in Central Florida and kinda stuck between two different mind sets. The people south of us must have some Brahman, but the people north of us have a good disdain for brahman..... thus I would probably start my...

    Deer Valley Old Hickory

Horned Frog, I can tell you from the EPD changes on my herd bull that something wonky happened with the $en numbers. My bull went from -10, which I think is kinda median for the breed, to -27 overnight. I can't say for sure that the numbers are that predictable, but I can say that crazy...

    Who to breed to.....

Elkwc, what part of the country are you in?

    Who to breed to.....

I'm breeding heifers to S Chisum and the rest to War Party. Unfortunately or fortunately my entire herd has In Focus in it. Conneally In Focus, OCC In Focus and Ten Ex sons. All of my cows carry quite a bit of capacity to them, all pushing 7 frame, easy fleshing, almost as wide as they stand...

    Who to breed to.....

W.B. that is what we ended up with. Right or wrong, we will have to deal with it now. For a long time I was looking at young bulls looking to possibly create something cool, but in the end, I think we are just better off with the proven genetics at this point. Thanks for everyones opinions.

    Who to breed to.....

Thank you for that different point of view. Is certainly interesting to hear different people and their thoughts. Your reasoning above is part of the reason Acclaim was in the mix. Proven CED and growth. Worst case scenario is I end up with something terminal I guess.

    Who to breed to.....

I have a select sires rep that I like. He actually gave me these three as top choices out of a list of 9 I have him. He immediately said that he had not seen calves out of 4 of them and only sold 5 straws of another. As a result I got down to these 3. In reality I have made a decision with...

    Who to breed to.....

Thanks for your 2 cents! Most everyone I have spoken with here in the southeast about Sure Fire progeny say they are vigorous growing and look very nice, both steers and heifers. In reality, I'm just playing with genetics because we aren't selling purebred animals, our goal is to get better...

    Who to breed to.....

Yes the steer sees my dad more often. I understand what you are saying. We try to pick our replacements out of good calm momma's. I think that we can all agree that none of us have time for a cow running from you and breaking things. Those cows are called culls. In the steers case, he only...

    Who to breed to.....

W.B. thank you for the advice! The heifer has been shown and is really calm. People talk about Docility and how it is concerning especially on a small farm. To be completely honest, we have never had an big issue with bulls or cows being flighty, there is always that one or two cows that have...

    Who to breed to.....

Deer Valley Patriot. He is elite calving ease from select sires. I mention select sires bulls because they are most cost effective to get where we are.

    Who to breed to.....

Looking for suggestions on who I should breed a progress x ambush cow to? Have a heifer calf out of her that was bred to Decagon (All in son) that am looking to breed. My top three are Sure Fire, Acclaim, and Patriot. Calving ease is a big deal for us, probably to a fault. TIA.
