    Baler recommendations wanted

So a quick update, yesterday I took it out for the first time and put up 91 bales with it. This thing is a monster! It will eat anything!!! No problems, no clogs, and I bale a lot of hilly places, lots of turns, definitely not ideal ground for haying. I couldn’t be happier! This Brutus of...

    Baler recommendations wanted

Well an update to my post of a couple of months ago… I did go baler shopping and decided after pricing out balers at my usual dealer that I just couldn’t afford one. Historically they’ve treated me right and I always try to give them my business. Then a month ago my old bush hog gave up the...

    Dart guns

Respectfully, if this is happening it needs more pumps. I’ve had this happen twice, and each time I was being too conservative with the pumps. You need a minimum (for my Pneu Dart Gun) of 7 pumps for calves and 8-9 for cows. The failure just indicates that it’s making contact without enough...

    Baler recommendations wanted

I wish I could buy hay like that here for that price! If I could it would be a no-brainer!

    Baler recommendations wanted

Thanks for the replies y’all. As far as how sharp my pencil is, the truth is it’s likely dull. But when I bought my hay equipment I ended up buying all new stuff with the expectation it would last 30 plus years (it’s all paid for btw)-which in that case would pencil out looking long term, or...

If you don’t mind me asking, what model Vermeer are you currently running?

    Baler recommendations wanted

I appreciate it, and you’re correct no doubt, but I need a new baler. I’ll grant you this, it would be cheaper to keep what I have, but it’s not worth my frustration. Also, I bale almost exclusively outside of my farms for the hay I bring in, so there is no option to take the cows there...

    Baler recommendations wanted

Howdy all, Yesterday was the day that made me want to get rid of my baler. I bought a new JD459e back in 2019 when I started this cattle adventure, and I’ve come to the conclusion it’s time to kick my baler to the curb. It’s (at times) a good little baler, and if your windrow is just right it...

    Rat tail or not??

Yes Sir, that’s a scary sight indeed!

    Rat tail or not??

I know I don’t post on here much, but I read it every day to keep up with the goings on. Had a first for me yesterday-a tail injury that’s in line with the post. Checked the cows about 10am, all was well. Got home from a Dr.’s appointment, and the cattle were up front getting water and my...

    Need advice on a Bull

Just Black Angus and Herefords here, so shouldn’t end up with any crosses I wouldn’t want. Like I said though, a few of my Herefords arrived at the farm bred, so may have a few off color calves shortly 😂 A quick edit for an addition: at feeding time today my Angus is doing great still 😁

    Need advice on a Bull

Gcreek- I am indeed a generation removed from raising cattle (kind of). Like most farm stories it’s complicated, but I’m happy to be the one who picked it back up. My grandfather started raising them in about 1947, and my uncle farmed alongside him until 2000. Uncle got killed in a farming...

    Need advice on a Bull

Thanks for saying so-I have to say I too love horned Herefords, and probably prefer them over the polled ones as well. This fella is pretty great though. I have to say around here Herefords are few and far between, my quest to add them to the farm here would probably have been an interesting...

    Need advice on a Bull

Right now I’m at 41 potential mommas out there in the field…. I’m hoping to get very close to that number bred 😬
