    fish ponds and pier finish

Is crawfish okay to put in the pond? Nevermind. I got some info. County Extension says it's okay, but some stuff on the net says they might bore holes through the clay and cause a leak.

    fish ponds and pier finish

I need some advice on what finish to use on our pier to protect it from the weather and extend its life. I plan on using Behr. Does anyone have a better recommendation? We're also planning on putting fish in our pond. We already talked to the county extension agent about what fish we can put in...

I get your point caustic. I'm aware of it. I've looked that up before. We'll produce.

    got our cows

Let me use your values as an example and see what I come up with; I'm aware that it will be different for my part of the country, but I'm just curious. 281.1 * 8 = 2248.8/year for 8 heads We're saving $2350.22 in taxes from ag. 2350.22 - 2248.8 = 101.42 Well, it's not at all accurate since...

    got our cows

Burno, I didn't plan on doing any AI or breeding until much much later or if at all necessary/feasible. I was just wanting more info on it. Is it bad to have cows that you don't plan on breeding? I don't know if it's detrimental to their health. Heck, we don't need anymore cattle, just...

    got our cows

All he had sitting out was liquid feed and constant supply of hay. He was leasing from Jan. to now/March. I don't know if I should get the liquid feed (mollassis smelling stuff) or blocks. I know I don't need hay for now since the grass is starting to grow, but like I said, I'll keep shredding...

    got our cows

Thanks arnold. We have about 10 acres to the side that are already sectioned off. I'll do what you said.

    got our cows

I knew I had a lot more learning to do. We're probably not going to get the bull yet. Maybe in the coming two years or so. We have made friends with neighbors who have knowledge about raising cows as they have in the past or are currently doing so as a hobby like we are. Our main purpose is...

    got our cows

Sounds like Angus will be the bull. I really want to get to a point to where I can tell what breeds the cows are. I'll probably keep alternating between Anguses and some other breed from now on; maybe Gelbvieh as some of you metioned. From what TurnThatCow's showed me, they come out beautiful...

    got our cows

They're not heifers. They've been bred before. I just don't know their exact age.

    got our cows

Learning already. I guess I need to look for some pictures of what a good teat and a bad teat looks like. I'll look through that book by Heather Thomas that ya'll recommended a while back. All I know is the cows were bred to a registered Limousin that was raised on our land some time ago...

    got our cows

We're new to cows, but finally bought some since we have a big enough land (45 acres) which we also bought months ago. We bought all eight for $5k. We're learning more and more every day. I'm wondering what breed these are. I'm sure they're mixed, but what are they predominantly; if it's at all...

    ranch vs farm

it would be called a FRANCH or RARM. I'm serious, it's in the dictionary. :P

    ranch vs farm

Good. It's good to know that I can call whatever our land is a farm or a ranch. I think I like ranch better. Sounds more Texan. :P Thanks

    ranch vs farm

I've always wondered what the difference was between a ranch and a farm. A friend of mine when we were young said it had something to do with the acreage; the ranch being of larger size than the farm. Some have told me that it depends on what you're raising; cattle vs plants.

what exactly is the cooperative extension?

I'm scanning the Texas Cooperative Extension website and am amazed at the wealth of information (mostly free information) on a variety of subjects. It's the first time I've ever heard of such a thing? Does every state have a Cooperative Extension? WOW. I'm impressed with my government actually...

txag, how does this book compare to the ones by Ensminger and Thomas? Is this book you recommend spicifically for Texas. If so, maybe it's better for my use since I AM in Texas. What do you think? Anyone.

Beffy, the book is mainly for my parents. This Q&A forum is for me. My parents are old fashioned and are used to those things called books. :P My dad wouldn't know the first thing to using forums. He e-mails, that's about it.

Thanks camp. I tried to search for "books" earlier and didn't come up with anything productive.
