    Older cattle beam scalei

Hello all!! I recently acquired a old Ranger cattle beam scale and am having trouble with getting it somewhat calibrated. All the balance points haves been lubed and I have adjusted the calibration knob to both extremes? With the scale empty on a concrete slab (level) it won’t balance unless I...

    New Holland 845 Auto-wrap

I have a 664 New Holland, if it’s the same style open the door on the right side where your belt for the auto-wrap belt is. Remove belt and pull cotter key and pull the big pulley off. Inside the hub is a little spring loaded assembly, use penetrating oil and make sure its works freely

how wide should a loading chute be?

I’ve had pretty decent success with 28-30 inch chutes, also have filled up last 8 foot of chute with dirt to about 12” on trailer end back to 0. This helps calves not to have to jump up into trailer. They just step right out of chute into trailer. Seems to help load out really well.

    vermeer 505 super I

The only way to put the twist in the 7" belts is slack off the belts and pull the cable at the splice and flip one side half over. Then work it to the front side of the baler. Helps a little bit, but if you plug the baler badly sometimes it will "move" the twist to the top! Don't twist the 14" belts

    Tubs

We put out a few mineral tubs and had to put them in a used truck tire. Seemed to stop the bull's antics!!! 11-22.5 seemed to work very well. Oh, that was 250# tubs

    Cattle loan question?

Hello all! I have a few questions for you, with today's prices what are your thoughts on borrowing money to buy cattle? I currently run 120 head cow/calf operation (no debt) but I might have an upcoming opportunity to pick up another pasture. So what would be an acceptable price to pay for a 3-5...

    Vermeer 554xl

Check your bearings on the "tension rollers" these are the 2 rollers on my 505I that move up and down as the bale gets larger. Mine eat the bearing and wore shaft down and was giving me fits trying to start the roll! Good luck!!

    How much hay?

I feed 4 rolls per cow on average winter, and 5 per cow if it gets bad. I'm in north Louisiana

    Diesel tractor revving up?

Had a Massey that would act a little strange like that, the manual fuel pump was full of trash. Almost like a plugged fuel filter. Also, we poured a quart of automatic transmission fluid in diesel tank to lube up injector pump??

    Thinking about new hay cutter??

I am considering a new hay cutter as my newest cutter is 12 years old. I've narrowed it down to a Krone or a Kuhn? Closest dealer has Kuhn(25 miles) and Krone is about 40. Was told by the salesman the Krone can be pulled by smaller tractor (shaft drive instead of belts). The tractor I'll be...

    Hay cradle

I built about 20 out of 1" pipe. They just hold 1 roll up off the ground. Seems to work a little better than a hay ring, or maybe just easier to sit a roll on it with FEL. Cows seem to waste a little cause I put out 7 rolls at a time. I tried hay rings made out of sucker rod & was constantly...

    Sediment bowl like this

Try Stevens tractor in Coushatta Louisiana. They have a website and handle all kinds of older tractor parts. Not too bad on price either!! Good luck

    New Holland hay roller

As long as it didn't get so hot as to warp the frame and such, should be able to just check bearings and replace belts. Does your baler have the sledge roller assembly? If so, there are some bearings in there also that's a pain to replace? Good luck!

    Feed amount for small squares?

Was thinking about using the alfalfa along with regular grass hay? I haven't checked protein on grass hay, but pretty sure it's not too high.

    Feed amount for small squares?

I was thinking about feeding some small squares of alfalfa to my cattle this winter?? Could ya'll give me some idea of amount I need to feed?? Dry cows at one pasture that should calve in February and 3 year olds with calves at another, all are brangus around 1200 and up on weight. Thanks for...

    New Holland 640 Baler

I use a 664 new holland, not exactly sure on the 640 but might have to back off the density valve so it doesn't make a super heavy roll. I agree with Angus Cowman, might have to run a lower gear.

Vermeer 5410 Rebel or New Holland BR740

I run a 664 new holland and it makes good heavy bales, heavier than my 505 vermeer. But if the sledge roller assembly or gears wear out, they are very expensive. Both are twine without net wrap, just make sure to get hay saver wheels, and a bale kicker at least!!
