    What kind of deal?

I'm not disputing any opinions, because I figure everyone one this forum is more knowledgeable than I am, but I am not finding just a whole lot of cattle that are much cheaper than this. I am only going off of age, bred, pregnancy checked, vaccinations, and price. Not factoring in anything else...

    What kind of deal?

Thank all you for you thoughts about this deal. I have been busy busy and have not been able to try and post pictures. From what I gather from y'all unless they are willing to come off substantially, this may not be a very good deal so I am just going to keep looking and pass up this sweet deal...

    What kind of deal?

Walnut- I have not inquired about them. That is all the info I know. I will try and post the pictures that were offered. And will try and get some more information on them. I saw them on a cattle sales Facebook group.

    What kind of deal?

Haven't really seen much to compare these to. What do you think? What I know - 5yo Purebred Hereford. Bred to Angus Bull. 1 period. 1800.00 - 5yo Purebred Hereford. Bred to Angus Bull. 3 period. 2250.00 - 6yo Purebred Hereford with 3mo BWF heifer. Bred to Angus Bull. 3000.00

Opinions needed?? Getting my feet wet.

Thank all of you for the guidance and advice. It is very much appreciated. I have gathered that I should have a goal to work towards, good fences and facilities are worth the money and work, look for some older cows not heifers, don't plan on getting rich ha but it is a very rewarding in the way...

Matt- I kind of thought that more people would suggest Herefords. Everything I have read about them seems right in line with you experience with them. I may be wrong but around here it seems like Herefords can be had for a noticeable amount less than other breeds. Thanks for the suggestion...

Ricebelt- thanks for the advice. I will take a look at cattlerange.com. I have been there quite a bit but now I have different things to look for. Blame it on my own ignorance but I would always just look at the heifer sections of each breed. When you all say "older cows" are you referring to...

Opinions needed?? Getting my feet wet.

bbird- My inlaws are very good to help if we ever needed it. Not really into cattle other than a calf to butcher every year, but always willing to lend a hand. The work ethic is not a problem, I am going to put the in the effort or I'm not going to do it. That's just how I'm made. As far as...

Opinions needed?? Getting my feet wet.

Backbone- Thanks for the links. I have tried contacting a few here in AR with not a lot of success, but I have not tried them all. I actually emailed Backbone Ranch earlier today. Thanks a lot. Walnut- Thanks for the advice. I still have some research to do as far as breed is concerned, but it...

JW- I did chuckle at your analogy. On the advice though, that's exactly what I'm trying not to do. I realize the questions I ask may seem like a complete fool, and boy do I hate sounding ignorant, but I see no other way than ask and feel stupid ha. That hypothetical arrangement you mentioned...

Opinions needed?? Getting my feet wet.

Walnut- Older cows may be the route I should take. Maybe just let them do their thing while letting me feel like I am important and have good managing skills, but learning and gaining experience all the while? As far as heifers go, I understand they can be a handful, a gamble, or whatever you...

Rafter S- I have really thought a lot about Brangus. I just had concerns about their temperament. But I am gathering that other than a wild animal here and there, it's all in how they are worked. I just have to learn the right methods of working them :). Lazy- I have been working towards buying...

Kingfisher- Around 10 Doc - I read your reply, and reread it. Your post describes really where I am at this point. I am just learning. All I have done is read, read, read about cattle, different operations, nutrition, etc. I stated that I was getting into the cattle business. That might have...

Opinions needed?? Getting my feet wet.

Hey, folks. I think my last post on here was two years ago. I was new to cattle then and I'm new to cattle now. I guess I am more of a creeper than a participant to this forum. I have been wanting to get into the cattle business for awhile, just haven't took the plunge. Yea I have been around...

    Picking a Bull??

Hey folks. I have been looking, studying, and researching EPDs on bulls. I grasp the concept of the idea and somewhat how to read and understand them but by no means am I a pro. I am very new to the cattle world so bear with me. How do you pick a bull based on EPDs for crossbreeding?? From...

    Replacement Heifers

cypressfarms and Caustic Burno - I may not be understanding correctly but....if most cattlemen produce their own replacements, who makes up the market for selling replacements?

    Replacement Heifers

Thanks for the information. Being new to the industry I am not looking to have a huge cattle ranch, or quiting my job to raise cattle but I am looking to try and have a little operation that I hopefully enjoy managing, and that will possibly pay its own way with hopes of turning a little bit of...

    Replacement Heifers

Im new to the board and for the most part cattle in general. I figure everyone has in their mind what direction they would want to take their cattle operation, as do I. I THINK I understand that for the most part cattle operations are cow calf operations. I also understand that seed stock...
