    Lot 1 GAR Sale

Plus the fact that its a lot more profitable to get 10 500 lbs calves out of a cow than 4 800 lbs weaned calves and then an open 6 year old who is out of the herd. You cant have it all. I will take the 500 lbs calves out of 10 year old cows while I also get to sell replacement females to others...

    Show me your herd bull

This is a home bred bull out of a straight Wye bull on the top and a cow that I just lost this spring at 12 years old with in her pedigree EXT top and bottom. Wish I could use him more but have too many close relations so am looking to send him somewhere else.

    Sustainable Genetics

Not sure if I'm THE one, but I do own a nice Wye bull as well as a nice bull from Oliver Angus that is Wye bred. I brought that bull up from fescue land to lake effect snow land this winter and he's done remarkably well.

Bill and Dan are both good guys and there are some interesting lines that they use. I will probably get around to using Pinebank 41/97 at some point. What breed and lines are you looking into?

    Gehl 5240 Pros/Cons

Needing a skidsteer for the farm. Just bought one of these at auction. Seemed like reasonable value. Anyone ever use one? If so, pluses and minuses would be appreciated.

    $M search

I finally decided I would give myself a chuckle and look up where our bull fell in the new and exciting value index called $M that the AAA has graciously given us. Unsurprisingly to me, he is in the bottom 5% of and index that is supposed to "predict profitability differences in progeny due to...

    Angus Association Good/Bad?

Arent you worried he would feel inadequate if all his partners were 2000 lbs. meatwagons? Poor guy.

Why Genomics Will Be the Future of EPDs

Not a matter of "want". Like CP said, I also watched the dairy industry go from relying on progeny results to create indexes to relying on genomic testing. The main people that were excited were large scale dairies that didnt want to take the time to consider phenotype and actually looking at...

If only we could hold you to that "only."

    Angus Association Good/Bad?

I'm small potatoes but yes, I have a good amount of WYE influence close up in my herd and will have much more from extenisvely using this bull, Barrage of Wye. He has an old school pedigree packed with sires and cows that had a big impact on WYE and should produce moderate, maternal, long...

    Angus Association Good/Bad?

Not every Angus breeder is falling for it. There will still be plenty of us trying to breed functional, maternal Angus cattle that will help the commercial cattlemen make good mommas.

Guess what sire's semen is inside the vapor shipper???

Scrotum looks really odd in that picture but I didnt notice that at all in person. Couldnt tell much about his mobility. I have to imagine that pushing them hard enough to get to 1107 @205 days is gonna hurt that free and easy stride a bit.

Guess what sire's semen is inside the vapor shipper???

I saw America when I was picking up a bull from NAB this weekend. He is what I would expect from that program, phenotypically correct and HUGE. Yes, they must feed them like my cows can only dream but it's still fun to see. Not something for me and my goals but I can definitely appreciate him...

Upcoming semen sale, rare air if you are interested.

Are you referring to Spring Valley? I was just trying to give the mainstream example that anyone at all involved with the Angus breed would have some familiartiy with to point out that Vince was wrong. I wasnt saying that was the only case to be made that manye believe Rito 707 is the golden...

Upcoming semen sale, rare air if you are interested.

He's the grandam of just about every SAV R_______ bull out there so I would say even to the casual number chaser like the original poster, that name would mean something. Even your average AI catalog goes two generations back if anyone cares to look.

    Analyze this Hay

I appreciate the comments. There definitely will be supplementing this year, looks like I can get some 13-15% protein Alfalfa large squares for about $100 per ton.

    Analyze this Hay

Dave, I'm honestly not familiar with how to interpret NDF versus TDN. How do you read that? Also, what little I do know about fiber and about this hay would lead me to say that you are accurate, I just dont know how the NDF numbers show that. This was very late 1st cutting when we were already...

    Analyze this Hay

Listen here, if we wanted your sass, we would have asked for it. :D Only about a foot of snow right now. You missed deer hunting up here in waist deep snow though. Visibility was great but was too deep for the ranger and too fluffy for the snowmobile so the hauling was no fun.
