Hello I'm am looking to start a stock cow operation on 10 acres in Oak Harbor, WA. I'm looking for advice of how many 500 to 900 pound calves I should be able to forage per acre.

Dave would you even recommend creating a ditch to get rid of the water it is flat land and I have both pond and another ditch to possibly drain to.

Well it only floods in the Winter months which is the rainy season... In the summer time the grass that grows seems to drink the water and keep it pretty dry.

I paid about 10000 for the land...I know it not the ideal place to farm but I figured I'd give it a try

Well first I wanted to plant grass to harvest hay from it then eventually put cattle on it

does anyone know someone that farms the far west part of texas that i might be able to get pointers from...the county extension said i could plant a native grass mix and it might do pretty well with irigation if i was planted at the right time

I TALKED TO THE COUNTY EXTENSION AND THEY SAY A MIXTURE A NATURAL GRASSES FROM THE AREA WOULD PROBABLY BE BEST...GRASSES LIKE BERMUDA, BUFFALO, BLUE GRAMMA

i am moving there...is the any breed of grass you would recommend
