My little grey heifer found a new home and I kinda miss her

That was a great thing to do. My daughter's first calf was given to her along those same lines and made such an impact on our lives that I can't begin to explain in a short post. Short story is it led to a wonderful mother/ daughter relationship through the tough teen years and eventually led...

    Donley County, Texas (Anyone in/near?)

I guess I'm kinda like that cousin who never calls until they need something...I haven't posted in a while, but things are good. The twins born in May are growing good, Momma is bred back and her first calf is bred. I have a favor to ask of anyone who may be located in or near (60 miles or so)...

    This year's yearling heifers

I like the topline on #3, and think she may just be a little green, just needs a little more time to fill out. If they were black and had pretty white faces and ears like #3, I'd have an opinion on them all. :D Good job with them, and good luck when the bull goes in.

    Rain

GB, can you go blow some this way please? It hasn't made it this far and we sure could use some.

    year for twins

Kinda what we were thinking too. 2 for 1 special come sale time. So far, both are ok with minimal intervention and mom has plenty of milk. They survived their first rain storm and will get to test out the pasture in a couple of days.

    My show calf won't lead

Something we have done is tie them for several hours. Place feed and water where he has to be lead to get to them. He should eventually associate being lead to the good things things at the end of the trip.

    i think she's close

Thank you. We are glad they are all healthy too. At this point, we realize that she wasn't getting up because she is calmer this time around than with the first calf. With the first one, my daughter was the only one she would let near for over a week. She still growls a bit, and let me know...

    i think she's close

Definitely glad we let her hold onto them another couple weeks, instead of pulling the calves and shooting the momma. :D She seems to be doing ok on milk. We will know just how well once the little one really gets the hang of it.

    i think she's close

Like nothing ever was wrong. And we figured out just how fast while trying to snatch a calf this afternoon. While she is MUCH calmer than with the first calf, she didn't take kindly to us snatching him while she had her back turned.

    i think she's close

Yes. She got up and let them both nurse.

    i think she's close

Both nursed, and a placenta passed. Still waiting for daylight.

    i think she's close

It's twins. Born in the night and we just found them. Both got up and walked to mom when we got here, but she isn't getting up. She let out a low muurrrr and they stood and went to her. We are waiting for daylight to do anything with any of them.

    I got some pigs

http://m.homedepot.com/p/Orbit-Basic-12 ... /202271381 We stall individually due to the fighting, in 5x5 and 5x10 stalls. This is the mister we use. I don't see the timer, but it was a very inexpensive garden timer that has two choices for settings...length of time to run, and length of time...

    Black Vultures

For some reason, they are hanging around our area now. Maybe cowgirl has scared them this direction. We watched 3 hover over the pasture where we have the momma that is about to calve. The black vultures will also attack a calf before it is fully exposed to the world or a calf who is...

    I got some pigs

From our experience, and we are not pro's: We started with a very high protein feed for the first 10-14 days, then lowered it to a 16%. It seems to give them a jump start on growth that will level out and remain consistent throughout the feeding period. If using the same brand of feed, you can...

    best mail order vet supplies

We have used valley vet and Jeffers. We also use our local store. Most times, even on special orders, they charge us the internet price listed at the websites, eliminating shipping charges. They also let us know their suppliers and we look for a comparable prodicy, if we are needing something...

    i think she's close

Just came back from checking the momma cow with the hurt leg. Last Tuesday (11 days ago), we started seeing a small amount of sticky clear to amber discharge. It has been fairly constant and about 1 thumb joint in quantity and has no smell. Today, it was stringy, wrapped around her tail. She...
