    Baldies

I'm going to a sale today. They are selling reg Hereford, commercial Hereford and F1 black baldys. Going to be interesting to see how the commercial and baldys bring in comparison to the papered Herf.

    Grazing wheat field

Does wheat hay cause bloat? I'm getting ready for my first try with wheat hay this spring.

    706 diesel

I have a 63 706 with the 282 diesel and a 69 756 with the same d310 (German) that was in the later 706 tractors. I believe that 310 is a far better engine..no glow plugs plus equal or better power. I have a friend who has two 706s one with each engine and he also prefers the d310.

    Who’s Still Here?

I have not been active for a long time. Stuck my head in the door over the last few days and it has been nice. Was sad to learn of Dun passing and don't know of any others. About half the names I recognize the other half are new to me. Not sure when the format changed but I am still trying to...

    Hereford Bulls

Thanks for the link and info. Of the two I think I would like the Anodyne a bit better but am interested in both so thought sired by one and dam by the other might be a good pedigree. Thanks to help from this post I made contact with @mrvictordomino last night and am now looking into his...

    Hereford Bulls

I'm thinking if I choose a bull wisely I could be able to maintain ribeye area and increase marbling a bit. I'm not sure about the finish time on the F1 but am thinking 18mo or so on the Akaushi.

    Hereford Bulls

Probably M6 Ranch but I think they got out of Charolais all together. Yeah I'm hoping to direct market for sure. I'm not feeling too froggy about it with the straight Charolais as I suspected a lot of select grade meat.

    Hereford Bulls

Thanks for the replies all. I know those red Angus work well with the Char as mentioned. My plan is to keep back the F1 girls and breed those to Akaushi for terminal. I might consider the RA on a few just out of curiosity. My hopeful end game is high grade meat but I think I can get pretty good...

    Hereford Bulls

I'm thinking about making some F1 with a Hereford bull over my Charolais herd. I have been studying a few sales catalogs and have a couple questions for those who know what is what in the Hereford breed. First, are there groups of bloodlines that the genetic defects effect or is it some...

What's hybrid vigor? This baby is PUREBRED ANGUS!

If its 1200lb at 205, will it be 3000lb as a 5 year old?

    Zeus

Looks good to me Nesi. I read some comments about his hind being taller than his front, that just means he is growing right now to me. I'm glad you are keeping with your in house blood lines and who knows, maybe Zues will be you next herd bull. Also, I love the mountains in the pictures around...

    My new heifer

She looks nice Nesi. What prompted you to go for some new blood after such a long time?

    Black Charolais Bulls?

Its garbage. Supposedly "bred up" from the red factor Charolais common in Canada. Black hair scam.

Cost Per Day for a Cow

$300-$400 a year per cow is not too far out of line from my experience.

    Linebreeding Info

Merry Christmas! I admit that I have completed the harvest here, but still don't seem to have much time to get on the internet. The new addition to our farm this year has been St.Croix hair sheep. We got our starting ewes and a ram from Ebeneezer here on CT. The sheep are much like the cattle in...

    Linebreeding Info

Its been a while Nesi. Im currently still fighting the soybean harvest on my farm. When that is over, I look forward to being on line more. I plan to check out the link you posted about the dogs. Also have a couple father/daughter matings coming in December so that should be interesting to...

    More on EPDs

EPDs require accurate and honest data being turned in by each and every producer every time or the information will be flawed. I have been noticing the EPD values continue to get "better" or improve as time goes on. Is it because breeders have been using superior breeding stock over time? Maybe...

    Dang Hector's grown!

Congrats on Hectors return Nesi. Ive been away for a while and just now read this thread thru. As best I remember, you already were using a bull out of your herd. (Via Chroma??) I cant remember the parentage of him really, but never knew how he turned out. Glad to see you are still using line...
