    Scrotal lesion

Frost bite makes sense, we had some pretty cold days recently. In person it does look just like that, necrotic tissue.

    Scrotal lesion

3yo bull. I don't know how long these lesions have been present. Slightly swollen around margins. Appears to be a drop of pus on one of the lesions. About the size of a quarter. Thoughts? Spider bites? Actions? Thanks.

New way to lose a calf

Calf was cool, even up inside the cavity. Legs were a little stiff, but spine and neck were very limber. Everything laid on the ground was very fresh. It had to have been during the night Thursday night. My farm guy says he saw the calf Thursday afternoon when he moved them. It rained most of...

New way to lose a calf

On the other side of the argument. Wouldn't you think the incision would be longer before you pulled the intestines for a field dressing? Not if you are in a hurry, I guess.

New way to lose a calf

Definitely no other wounds. With everyone's comments and time to consider things, it sure does point to a person killing the calf. If it were an injury while running, the intestines would have been strewn all over the pasture. The incision certainly was not an immediately fatal event. Creepy...

New way to lose a calf

I blamed the lack of blood on a heavy rain around sunrise, but I thought the same thing. I had not considered the 2 legged predator. I will check again in a little bit for a wound.

New way to lose a calf

What are your thoughts, kingfisher. It is crazy. It is as clean as a scalpel incision. Intestines seem to be spilled out, nor dragged out. There was not a mark on the calf otherwise. If something dragged it down (cat maybe), you would think that there would be other signs. Calf was in a group...

New way to lose a calf

Mother was acting like she couldn't find her calf this morning. I didn't believe her. Went back an hour later, she had pushed through an electric tape gate and was next to this. The only thing I can figure is that the calf was running from something last night and hung herself in these bois...

    calf skin issue or wound?

Calf is a week old. Looked fine two days ago. Appears raw and slightly bloody. Calf is fine otherwise. Lesions are around both eyes, between the ears and one spot on top of the head.

Getting birth weight on new born calf

We use a sling and a hanging scale. Put the sling around them, attach it to the scale and pick the scale up. Easy peasy.

    ARGH!!! Cr@ppy fence charger--advice?

We use a ParMak solar in the areas we don't have permanent hi-tensile. Dragging it around is hard on it, but it works after two years with some minor repairs. Our main energizer is a StaFix in the well house. Flawless for three years.

    AI tech in SE OK

Thanks for the help. I wish we were closer to Pryor. The only vet here that I thought much of went to work for the state. I have yet to find someone else that I think is very helpful.

    Roughage buster

Beginning to look like alfalfa may be the choice. I was hoping for something a little more economical. TB, thanks for pointing out the corn gluten. I think that alone will make the choice for me on Roughage Buster.

    Roughage buster

Thanks guys. Our primary concern is to avoid products that contain grain. We market grassfed/finished beef. Our secondary concern is to avoid GMO/pesticide sprayed products. Our customers are pretty savvy and do quiz us on things like this.
