    Preparing for calving - banding

That's the way I did. I'd give the pair about 24 hr. to bond. I'd then usually catch the calf laying. I used the cheerio bands and no shots.

    Banding Problem?

I used to give my cow/calf about 24 hours after birth to get acclimated then I put the cherrio band on. A lot less stress on all involved. I had a smaller herd so it wasn't too much work plus my calving season was split between early spring and early fall.

    Perilla mint/purple mint toxicity

I hate the stuff. Never had any problem with cattle eating it green. I sprayed it with 24D with them in the pasture without problems. I rotated my grazing so usually tried to spray after they were moved. It has such a seed bank that it's hard to get a handle on it. Probably the most invasive...

    Sickle bar mower kubota

Ran into the same thing with the ford. Most of the old massey mowers should work pretty good.

    Kubota 5030 HST problem

I'd also try ssbtractor.com and go to the Kubota tractor discussion boards. Post question and ask for a response from jm. That guy is a real Guru.

Show your bull(s) - Put a pic up

I enjoy this thread. TT, after reviewing this Bull you should see what I was speaking of when I said I was not real satisfied with the one I posted way back. Mine was not pure Angus he's a hybrid. Which to me is even more reason he should show thicker. Boot Jack 's bull looks complete. Don't...

    HELP WITH FORUM

For some, because it's a cattle board and the first instinct is to comment on pictures. For others, often it's a opportunity to pile on.

    Hay Equipment Then and Now

Depends a lot on what you're cutting. On grass hay I don't see much difference using a mower conditioner as opposed to a disc mower on drying time. I do use a tedder, mostly on 1st cutting. It helps but in thick stuff you'll have those real green spots until you get it off the ground.

Show your bull(s) - Put a pic up

Marvin's a stout looking fellow. I think you'd stated his breeding before but I can't remember?

I thought because they used Hammond they were trying to inject some sort of humor into the commercials.

    Bulls to pick apart!!!

Raising cattle is certainly a learning experience. With your mindset you should do fine. You've already evaluated your herd bull and know the direction you want to go in that regard. I enjoy Bull shopping hoping to improve each time. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't. I looked at the numbers...

    True or false?

His statement is both true and false. If the flag was square it was indeed the battle flag for the Army of Northern Virginia. It was not "The Flag" of the Confederacy but is the one most associated today with the seceding states.

    Flounder and Hook

Flounder is probably just lonely as they did seem to feed off one another.

    Bad udder.

I don't like the teats on that cow. If the front teats are giving anything enough to support the calf it will eventually go to the back and work those down. Too much "if" for me. I've dealt with them and those bottle teats are heredity and will only get worse with age. If you can work her out...

    Feelings

You have to realize there are folks of all ages here. I'm sure some are young and very sincere with their questions. I can see where they could be taken aback with some responses they receive. There seem to be times others are just looking for a little confrontation. When that urge hits you...

So who else needs this rain to stop?

I'm looking forward to that Sat. forecast. If that one doesn't hit they're not showing anything for the next week. Not bad here yet as we are only -.75 for the year but it's been an extremely hot month and breezy. Just 8 miles north they've gotten 3.5 " more for the month of June compared to...
