that’s what I thought but it didn’t work. Pin doesn’t have any pressure on it. I thought you would hook the ratchet where you said and crank to relieve pressure then take the piece above the pin off the rod (circled in red) but couldn’t get it to budge.

When they reach one year of age the steers will run off and leave the heifers. Would probably be more economical to run them on grass until they get about 800 lbs then go to feed.
