    Pasture Pet Peeves

Neighbors granddaughter and her new boyfriend did that a couple weeks ago. They shot for 5 or 6 hours. I assume it was a .22 l, otherwise they spent some serious coin that day.

What are the going lease rates for pasture?

I've paid between 30 and 50 per acre here in TN. Has been worth every penny.

Is this Virginia Wild Rye? I believe this is the same as the first one picture of the thread. Has bearded type seed. It's a sod type grass. Small leaves compared to most of the rest. This one somewhat resembles fescue, but it's not.

@Mark Reynolds Found one that had sent the seed out. It's a real pretty grass. The leaf shape is definitely unique from everything else. These leaf blades are 5/8" wide. Stem is close to 3/16 at the ground.

The seedhead had not emerged yet. I pulled some leaf back to expose it. Possibly the reason they're so thin? Keeping my eye out for a mature clump. I've got a type of brome that was brought in thru hay from the lease in Morristown. It's a helluva producer. I'll try to compare the two.

I wondered this whole time if it could be brome, but I've never seen it before. That's pretty dang neat!

I found another clump yesterday. Has the thinnest little seeds.

    Clover Galore

You know I be disliking people. 😆 I would like to get some organic matter readings as well as some soil nutrient levels. Curious what the organic N would be with all this Clover. Based on thr color of the Clover, to my understanding, it is definitely fixing N.

    Clover Galore

...bale some. But have decided to just keep the rotation going and get to it when i get to it. Betting it'll be 100+ days rested by the time i get back to where I started. Could hit it now to be honest. I hear it doesn't stockpile for sh*t, at least going into cold weather. We shall see how it...

    Clover Galore

This season, thus far, has me blown away with the amount of clover that's came up. Haven't put a dent in the place in 4.5 weeks. Need more critters. Size of the blooms has impressed me without a doubt.

I promise you it is not. I have ryegrass here too. Completely different color, seedhead formation, etc. It does not have the waxy leaves either. Is it possible for two types of grass to cross/hybridized on their own?

The only similarity is the seedhead before it spreads out. I've lost it in the field now. Will be April before I see it again I suppose.

    Grass ID

I will see if I can find it this morning. There were a few clumps across the field. The way seed comes off the stem on ryegrass, it's definitely not that. The seed is arranged more similarly to fescue. Though the leaves and stem are definitely different. It's got a color similar to Timothy...

I went to get a few samples yesterday... I cannot locate a single clump. Lol. When i do find it i will try the leaf underside for serations.

I'm wondering if it isn't a type of fescue. The bearded seed is what's throwing me for a loop. Was dark when I got in last night, I'll grab a couple pieces of it to bring home for a photoshoot. It's so green that it's almost blue.

After looking at pictures, I don't think it is perennial ryegrass nor quack grass. Has a seedhead very similar to fescue, only bearded. I'll get some better picture. I'd really like to know. Haven't seem it before and there are quite a few little clumps of it this year. Gonna watch to see how...
