    Feeding calves for weaning/ holding

There are lots of variables. I really have no experience with this type of project, but was impressed with the numbers. Thank you for sharing :)

    Asking for a friend…….

Oh great, that will be the next fad. Give the prospective bull a shot of Lutalyse or Estrumate just before the BSE.

    Bulls

I will start asking some people questions on this topic. In the past I had a veterinarian that was actually a "veterinarian". Had not even thought of the possibilities/sources you mentioned.

    Bulls

This area used to have a lot more dairies, beef cattle and sheep. The fishing and logging has diminished noticeably from what it used to be. There were quite a few of the mills sold and literally dismantled.

Pictures can be deceiving. We will just have to compare them again later on. I'm not to sure about the back legs on the bull I got. If you look to close you might blow milk out the other side of you nose.:)

I will check and find out. The closest sale barn is 135 miles, 270 miles round trip, pickup gets 10 miles to the gallon  My cows may shift to summer calving. Worst case scenario I may have to find something else to entertain myself.

I get the impression that's what most of the newcomer vets prefer. If they charge exuberant fees they won't have to work large animals.

That is about what it cost in this area 4 or 5 years ago. But the new vets are spendy

I know you are 100% right Murray... The cost of the BSE in this area would cost $350 -$550. So I rolled the dice. I guess I will know in 6-8 weeks. 😟

    Bulls

What is the youngest age a bull calf/yearling can be expected to bass the BSE ? 12-14 months ? I realize 8-10 months is pretty young, even though I have used angus that young successfully, with a small number of cows.

    New Beefmaster Bull

I like that beefmaster. I just picked up a yearling bull, he is 3/3 angus. ;) Unlike Murray's bull, mine came with tail weights at no extra charge. No idea if he is homozygous black, no BSE. Straight from his home pasture to mine by trailer. With only 4 cows I have to adhere to a budget...
