Does anyone have a comparison of tx panicum hay vs bermudagrass hay. Have opportunity to buy the 2nd cut tx panicum hay that was baled a second time after milo crop. It has almost no milo stalks since is 2nd cutting. What is your experience with this hay?

When to start using Grazon and fertilizer on a mesquite filled pasture treated with Sendero

Remedy with water does not hurt the grass, just broadleaves. Have used Grazon but like this better. Less chance of drift onto neighbors cotton field. Also The Cimarron has some soil residual that Grazon does not. It will keep down late emerging broadleaves such as wooly croton.

When to start using Grazon and fertilizer on a mesquite filled pasture treated with Sendero

For the past 2 years have been spraying my pastures with 8 oz of remedy and 1/2 oz/ac of Cimmaron plus. Have gotten excellent broadleaf weed control plus the mesquites are mostly dead. Where have thick mesquites, had this sprayed with a chopper. Will be surprised if very many mesquites green up...

Potential lease place. Grazing land will need some work

If you are expending any significant money or labor getting the place going, you need to get a long term written lease. Have heard of numerous situations where person did quite a bit of fence work and pasture improvement. About the time place was getting productive enough to repay them, the...

Story trip through time.... something to ponder on

Central Texas is the land of perpetual drought punctuated by flooding. Only been here 16 years but that is the most accurate description of this areas weather I’ve ever heard. Either a swamp or desert and not much in between. Just been thru a swamp/flooding phase and afraid drought may be just...

    Too much grass

At least 2 major cow packers been harvesting the fetal blood for over 2 years. According to Wikipedia, it is normally drawn from the heart of calf from just killed cows. They have been paying at least 5 cents over top kill value for many heavy bred cows. Packers are bidding a lot of the profit...

    Well Texas...Is it wet yet?

In Hill Co have had 10” rain in last 2 weeks with 1/2 coming in past 4 days. Water and mud everywhere. Sure can grow more grass in mud than in dust we had in last 12 months. Brazos and Bosque rivers rolling with Lake Whitney and Aquilla releasing water. Lake Whitney picnic area flooded with the...

    AC powered Energizer tripping GFCI

Have had both Zareba & Kencove chargers running from gfi outlet for 14 years with very few disconnects. My setup is a surge protected power strip plugged into gfi outlet then fence charger plugged into the power strip. Possibly the surge protected power strip makes the difference. Wouldn’t cost...

Milk Weed in Vaughn’s Bermuda Hay Field

Not sure if will control milkweed, but for last 2 years, 8 oz remedy plus 1/2 oz cimmaron plus has given me excellent weed control with enough residual to control wooly croton/doveweed later in summer. Has much less drift risk and neither are restricted use, so no license required.

    Intensive grazing

Would suggest reading Greg Judy's book "Comeback Farms" Is very good book explaining how to do what you have in mind. He explains how to do intensive grazing using existing water sources and even has some good diagrams that show how to set up the fences. https://www.stockmangrassfarmer.com/Sto...

    Pasture management

Due to wet weather, wasn't able to get my pastures sprayed until mid May. Used 8oz Remedy and 1/2 oz of Cimarron plus. Got good kill on existing weeds while burning small mesquites and greenbriar. Apparently enough residual that have no wooly croton at this point. Am real pleased with weed...

    Temporary fencing

I use lots of polywire with stepin posts. Get most of mine from Kencove. Most of what can be bought locally is junk. Once hotwire trained you have a lot of options. 2 people with a string of polywire between them become a moving fence. Easy to build wings and lanes to make penning cattle a 1 man...

    Banvel/dicamba

No 2-4d in remedy. It's tryclopyr. Am not aware of significant drift hazard but haven't sprayed it within 1 mile of cotton. Would think with less than 10-12 mph wind, wouldn't move very far at all. If not comfortable with spraying Remedy near cotton, could go with 1 oz of Cimarron Plus alone...

    Banvel/dicamba

Just stock up on Remedy when you are in Texas. Not restricted here. The big ag chem dist will probably have best prices but should be able to get it at TSC, Atwood's and other farm stores.
