Ticks

A former CT member that lives in KY recently lost a cow to Therelia. Had his vet do a necropsy to be sure.
Hook that got banned from CT long ago moved to TN and lost 2 to Therelia and had 2 more sick. 1 of those aborted. Vet didn't even mention ticks until I told him to check. All 4 tested positive. He is 40 miles from me.

Im thinking about a battery powered super soaker..catch them in corral panels, throw doen soem feed along the edges. Then get to work with the water gun.

Is ultra boss the best pour on for them? Apologies if its already been said.

Those walk through sprayers seem like the ticket for some thing like that.

I tried to buy one of those 2 weeks ago. Out of stock here.
Im back to a pump up sprayer or the sprayer on my side by side.

Key Facts:

  • Origin of the Myth: The claim that an opossum eats 5,000 ticks per season originated from a 2009 study which assumed that any tick not found on the animal or in its cage had been eaten.
  • Scientific Debunking: A 2021 study analyzed the stomach contents of 32 wild Virginia opossums and found zero evidence of ticks in their digestive tracts. This study, along with reviews of 23 other diet analyses, concluded that ticks are not a preferred food source.
  • Actual Behavior: Opossums kill ticks through rigorous grooming, but they typically ingest other insects, small rodents, fruits, and carrion instead.
Thank you. I stand corrected!!

Not sure the seal orings stand up to insecticide

Pretty pricy plus I have 14 pastures they are rotated through so its not feasible for me. I definitely like the idea.
You can get the battery powered sprayers (like carwash sprayers) for under $20 with 2 batteries from the China store. You must flush rinse well shortly after use because the pesticides will eat the seals. We put the hose in a 5 gallon jug.

I am sure you are right about that. Hadnt considered it. Havent pulled trigger on anything yet. Im checking ever couple days and havent seen sign of one on my heifers. They are at the farm I cant step foot on without getting at least one. Im going to hit them with ultra sabre and hopefully that takes care of it.

I have yet to get a tick here where I live and rotate daily. Only a mile in between the two places. All i can think is there is more tick predators up here.
