I said on another thread that everyone is busy making hay. About 10 days ago I called B about something. He said he was down at Annex baling hay. He had been there for several days, so I said you still doing that? He replied in 30 more bales I will be at 3,000. These are 3x4x8 big square bales. Now he has come back home and started. Picture of a little maybe 20 acres he baled last night. Probably has another 150 acres on the ground.
Picture of another neighbors stack. He was one of the guys horse back in Thursday's cattle drive. He hauled this home on Friday and Saturday. He has another 200-300 acres of grass hay which will get cut in a week - 10 days.

That's beautiful. Guess they don't have to worry about rain on it.

Here they bale hayledge all covered with white plastic called Marshmellows. Feed it to the dairy cows.
 
Everyone in our area was short on first cutting this year.
I did 18 acres of my “good hay” alfalfa orchard grass. Normally get 50-60 5x6’s, I got 27. We were short on moisture and short on heat. Pastures were about half height when they headed out.
 
I did 5 acres out the 55 I hay. Got 26 5x6 rounds. It’s just too wet to do more, and getting wetter this week. Rain in the forecast for every day. But this is welcome after the drought we have experienced here in SETX.
 
Hay here is al irrigated. What is this rain you people talk about? When I was on the coast it was all either haylage (marshmellows) or it got covered in one way or another. Here stacked outside you might lose a couple inches on the top layer. This hay is all fall Triticale. The first cutting on alfalfa has been happening too. Grass hay wont start for a week or a little more.

I have a semi load supposed to be delivered today. We are still in D3 drought. Last year was $125-150/ton. Going to be $250 this year for alfalfa. Forage barley and millet hay should be a little less.
 
Got two loads in today. Each load was 28 tons. Alfalfa rounds at 34 bales per load averaged 1670+ per bale. Seems to be pretty good hay. Still need 4-5 more loads and probably wait for some forage barley and millet hay to get made.
 
They were knocking down the timothy and alfalfa around here yesterday. Hot, dry and windy the first crop should be great, not sure if any of the dry land people will get much after that.
 
Yah what is rain? My hay guys need a week of it because the irrigation water has to go through two tunnels and one is still under repair and no water til at least July 1. Real hardship on those guys when they need to going full bore. I am pretty sure there are well over 10,000 acres of prime hay ground under this canal. What a wreck.
 
I'd like to get started but the daily showers and cool/cold temps aren't going to dry hay at all. Was 43° this morning and only got to 54°, the dew dried off by 3pm and the rain started at 4pm. O well the hay will still be standing in a week or two.
 
Your dew and our dew are different haha.

Last night was 43° again. The nightly dew/fog measured just under .1" in the rain gauge. Highest temp in the 10 day forecast is 64°, all the nights in the 40s.

I can't even bale with the dew here when wrapping for baleage.
 
If our hay is too dry we get about a 10 minute window in the evening where the moisture is in range before it gets too wet.
I think it our dew that keeps this area from looking like Dave’s area, because the 2 or 3 extra inches of rain per year wouldn’t make that much difference.

That was true over on the coast too. Once the dew started forming in the evening over there you had to quit baling.
