I wish I had taken more pics of this bull. I'd guess he weighed close to 2,000# when I found him with the bad foot. We got him to the vet and it was worse than we thought and they amputated the toe. This happened in July. We turned him back out behind the house in a 10 acre trap by himself and I'd guess he got down to 1,500# we honestly thought he'd get down and not get back up at one point. He finally fully recovered and got around like nothing was wrong. The toe completely healed. We sold him in 20240701_161143.jpg20240701_160529.jpg20240701_154942.jpgJanuaryy when we sold cull cows and he weighed 1,950#. He was a really nice Brangus bull.

This pic was today. The dang thing appears to be growing back.

I may not have to worry about putting her with the heifer bull in June. We will see. It certainly appears she's starting to make an udder and VERY wide in the belly. I pulled her off her mama a week or two after labor day. That'd make her about 7 months. Sure ain't expecting that. Especially after 2 rounds of antibiotics. Figure for sure she would've aborted that early in a pregnancy.

Various odd things really. Basically I don't like the way she looks at me. 🤠
Shes become kinda skittish. Doesn't like to come in the pen as well as I'd like. And takes off outta the pen for no good reason.
I've also had 2 other cows with foot problems where she would be going. I just kinda took it all as a sign to get on with it. The only real reason I was gonna keep her was because everyone thinks I shouldn't. And that's no good reason really!

The steer actually belongs to my friend. She bought him a while back from me. If the heifer wasn't so flighty, I think she's the better animal to eat for sure. Getting rid of projects and any problems this week.

@Travlr don't think I better eat her for that. She did much better than I expected. I thought for sure she was gonna get a heavy discount.
That heifer was 15 months old.

2 older cows sell tmrw. One ain't gonna do too well. I'll post up sale prices anyway. I've still got her calf. Need to get her up to 800lbs or so too I reckon. 🤣

I was watching online today. Working.
I made sure to mention it when I dropped her off. I heard him announce she was double vax, double worm and on feed for 30 days. I honestly don't think anyone noticed her missing claw. Really don't matter where she is going anyway.

She did look pretty darn good I think too!
Ya know, I can't recall seeing many animals come thru with one toe. Plenty of cripples. Plenty limping. I've even seen some calves with 3 claws on some groups. That particular set was all from one place and I heard they breed really tight. Lots and lots of inbreeding.
Seen lots of long toes too.
But missing one does seem like an anomaly that some might not notice if the animal is otherwise sound and walking/performing well.
