I have a cow who was suppose to be due 2/17/26 but has yet to calve.
We AI’d her and then turned her out with a bill to get cleaned up. When we had the vet ultrasound her they were very confident saying she took AI and looked the same as all the other AI cows we had. She’s also very large right now lol. Im not sure if she’s just cooking it extra long, or if she just got cleaned up on her next cycle?

This will be her 2nd calf. Her first calf was a heifer that she had exactly on her due date last year. She never got a huge udder IMG_1026.jpegIMG_1028.jpegIMG_1029.jpeg

Looks like she's got a big baby in there, but not close to calving. Bull calves generally take longer but settling with the cleanup bull is definitely a possibility.

I agree, she just doesn’t look really ready to me. But she’s definitely quite large.

We preg checked some recips that were 99 days, so just a few days less than what she would’ve been if she settled on her next cycle and the size difference and difference in what you could see on them was crazy.
 
10 days before/after due date is still considered a normal gestation. she is still within that range. some cows do not show any signs of calving before hand and you just check them and surprise, calf is here. preg checking that late is not as accurate on days preg as doing it before 90 days. I had a cow calf 2 weeks after her due date this year. I thought I had her due date wrong but she was preg checked at 38 days so could not have settled to cleanup bull.
 
Looking at her udder, it sort of looks like another calf may be nursing. It appears that the hair is wet and stuck together. Her teats are not chalky looking as they look when they have dry skin and dirt on them.

Often, those cows just bag up the minute the calf comes out and it makes me so nervous when they do this. But at such a young age, they are not drinking as much as they do when they are a few weeks old.

It does make you nervous for sure as I think about the calf still growing. But cows can have a big calf often with no problem. It is when they don't get their legs staight and lined up that makes it hard. Only had two calves in all those years that had a leg turned down and had to go in and pull that leg up. Hard to do when they continue to push. Lots of power there to get the calf out.

She definitely hasn’t had any calves nursing on her. I could see how it looks that way in the picture though.

All our cows are clubby so the calves always come out huge. We’ve had to pull a few already this year
 
What a nice calf. Be proud!! If she is a cow I keep, I always write down what they did the year before on the calander, and I can go back and look to see if she was really late to bag up.
One reason I said she looked someone was nursing, the skin on the teats of cows that have not been nursed appear to have much dry skin and it always looks chalky. But once one nurses with that slimy saliva and the milk, it gets a dark sheen after that. Calf has a good shoulder and heart girth. Looks like it will be a good one.

She’s one of our favorite cows, both her calves have been a little windswept when they’re born but her last heifer ended up super nice! I’m excited to see how this one turns out!
