Calf slit her hoof at about 2-3 months old (second pic I think). She hobbled for quite a while, gave her some draxxin, kept her clean as I could and she healed up and seemed to do fine after about 3-4 weeks even though it still seemed to ooze and bleed just a tick on occasion. Eventually (3 months later) that hunk of hoof separated (first pic) and today seems like it's gone entirely. It did bleed a bit (couple drops in the snow) while this was all happening, but today she seems no worse for wear at 7 months old with what seems like 25% of the outside of her hoof gone. Question is this - is that possible? Does that flesh in there just "scab" over like the skin under a finger nail that comes off? I figured eventually it would just get all infected and stuff and it would be a constant battle to keep her healthy while I just fed her out, but it doesn't even seem to bleed or ooze any more and she could care less.
Not sure the pics will help or not... one pic is when it first happened. The second pic is with a hunk still hanging there.
