Brought 3 cows in the barn a few days ago after the weather was calling for a sleet, One cow calved that first night. One of the others is close and one probably a couple weeks away atleast, but saw her with some heavy discharge and didn’t want to take a chance so she’s up too. The cow that calved is a second calf cow the others are coming with their 3rd calves.
That cow with the calf is very protective which is a good thing, but does add a degree of difficulty when getting in there with them to feed. She’s settled down some but I still watch her pretty close. She’s fine any other time once her calf gets some size.
The other solid white face cow was born about this time of year when I was calving out some heifers. I had to bring a few of those calves in the house to warm up.
All 3 of these cows are home raised and out of home raised bulls and cows.
We’ve since brought in other bulls and they are bred to an outcross bull.

I almost bought 2 first calf pairs last Thursday. Tiny lil babies. I was concerned about turning them out with all this weather coming in. I don't live with em like I used to, so I started the bidding and it just went up from there. I've had em get stepped on in the barn before. They were sure cheap for what they were. But if I'd a lost those calves.....

Yes I would have been concerned about the little ones too. I got one that was born January 16, she’s out in it, and seems to be doing fine thus far. I was worried that if we got the around 18 inches to 2 foot of snow they were calling for at first that she’d have a hard time navigating through it. She came up with the rest of the cows and bigger fall calves this morning. She was looking me over, I told her I didn’t like this cold weather either and told her to hold on a couple more months it would surely get better. She’s had a rough start in life, it was under 20 degrees the night she was born down in a holler. But she’s been up running around like a deer ever since.
On another note I’ve always been a little leery of buying cows with just born or real real young calves almost regardless of the weather.
 
We had 10-12” of snow in one place where we have cows calving. As as we know all have made it. They have stock piled grass and some rough areas for shelter. I leave ours alone. They seem to do better when I stay out of the way
