Yep, not going to complain about July rain. I believe it was about 2016 we had a wet July. I had chest high KR Bluestem and knee high bermuda in August that year.

I'd like to find out who was responsible for this groundskeeping equipment before me. They should be taken out and horse-whipped. Washed underneath the mower decks a day or two ago…looked like it hadn't been done since the ark landed. Sigh

My wife said that I'm the only person left in the world who still reads the encyclopedia. Not the first time she was wrong and if I want her to know that, I will tell her..Nerdy? When I'm awake this time of night, after I catch up on CT and the news, I fetch a random encyclopedia. Of course each topic has references to others, so by the time I fall back asleep I have a stack of books beside me. That's nerdy

Over 7” rain in the past 5 days with the majority in the last 2 days. Pastures flooded & cattle stranded on the other side of the creek. All is good as grass is growing but heat wave supposed to return next week, & I’m sure I’ll be missing the cooler temps + rain then.

Check your hay pastures for army worms. They are out in full force here. Had to start spraying today - not ideal conditions but you gotta do what you gotta do. Here is one writhing in agony…wish I could hear him scream…is that wrong? LOL.

Got the hayfields finished with the army worm/weed/johnsongrass treatment. Starting on the “rehab” pasture with trichlopyr for the persimmon shoots. Other pastures need a good Grazon treatment for goat weeds and a few odd ball weeds. The rehab pasture shows no sign of army worms at all and has grown into a decent stand of Bahia…not ideal but looks much better than it has in a long time.
Walked out into the hay pasture behind the house a while ago and took a good look. Yesterday, while spraying, the ground was crawling with the little spawns of satan. Today, I only found one. Both hay pastures took a pretty good beating. Weddings, weather, etc. has me way behind. Here’s hoping the sunshine this week coupled with the recent rains & chicken litter will help it recover in time for a second cutting. Not holding my breath because the damage was pretty bad. At least we got one good cutting earlier - enough to last the winter pretty easily unless it’s one of those rare long cold winters in east Texas…it has happened before but is outside the norm. August is supposed to have higher than average rainfall here this year…of course, just about ANY rainfall in August here would be “above normal”.

It's the squash bugs that confound me... I've never found a better method than hand picking them and their eggs... but it's labor/time intensive and I'd sure like to find a chemical that works.

They will eat just about anything that happens to be available. I saw quite a few on the Johnson grass. They will even eat fruits and vegetables in your garden if that's all that's available. Haven't see any on the Bahia. They would probably eat the leaves but not the stalks. But they have really done a number on the coastal Bermuda.

Uh-oh…tractor died on me today. Have a full 200 gallon sprayer attached to it and the tractor just up and died. Only 1/2 way done spraying weeds on rehab pasture…I guess there’s never a convenient time for this…sigh

I just had a fuel tank vent cause mine to shut down suddenly. Clogged by some kind of critter that can cut leaves in perfectly sized circles, and then pack them tight.

This is probably a fuel line or filter issue…possibly some trash in the tank. I have a guy who is going to check it out for me hopefully tomorrow…ironic that I just retired and don’t have the time to tear into it myself…sigh
