I would call who ever makes that hitch and trailer and let them know. They might be more than willing to fix it and compensate you.

Two years ago I had the tongue break out from under a trailer. I called who I bought it from and they called who makes them. Had a wrecker out asap to pick the whole trailer up. They took it to a welding shop to be repaired and brought it back to me at my house. I had some very good pictures of it and why it broke with their emblem right down the side of the trailer. Trailer was not 6mo old.

That was a big risk taking it home. Liability went from them to you at that point.

Poor design. Not a failure of the welds. Open bottom on the hitch allows for a lot of crevice corrosion and failure of the metal.

10 miles of old dirt road, I really wasn't concerned. Don't know who made the hitch, trailer was made by Haulrite out of either new mexico or Colorado..I can't remember..MISERABLE company, they went out of business a few years after I bought it... stakepockets were in different places on the left vs the right side of the trailer, spring perches were welded too close together so you could barely fit your hand between the tires, wiring was all done with those clips, absolutely no resistance to water.. and the paint was so thin it was rusty by the time I got it home

I can tell you the backhoe attachment I had on the trailer only weighed a little over a ton.. few years back I did haul some pretty heavy loads with it


While we're on the topic, these aren't my pics, but I've heard a lot of stories of these hitches breaking, they're the ones with the recessed hex stamped into them so the ball doesn't turn

yeah, the A frameof the trailer should have come out further so there was more meat to weld to, and it would have had more support
 
Similar to what Brute said but what about contacting the manufacturer of the coupler which is probably different than the manufacturer of the trailer.
