    Red Gelbvieh cattle.

These are the two bulls I have right now. One 75/25 balancer and one purebred gel. Best conception rates we've ever had on whatever cows we put them on. I think you'll be very pleased. We always had a lot of demand for our heifers. Steers brought top dollar as well, but not enough premium in my...

    Diarrhea in stockers

Mixed. We put them together this summer. They were dewormed for a second time on 08/22 with pour on and oral drench. That was longer ago than I thought after referencing my notes. The thing that has me confused is they looked behind, but not bad prior to starting feed.

    Diarrhea in stockers

I've been feeding a pelletized feed from FRM for about 16 days. I started around 8# per day and am up to 12# per day. The cattle have access to pasture that's still green, but backing off in a hurry. The steers were around 550 on the low end and 625 on the high end prior to first feeding. Have...

    Sewer pipe feeders

Working good so far. Went with the tires.

    Winter annuals and feed

I’m having a $0.72 cost of gain with the ones I’m feeding now, as of last time I weighed some. They are on old bahia pasture. I don’t know if there will be room for extra growth when the grazing is better. For example, would conversion rate be different?

    Kubota M9540 with 1340 loader

Shoot, as wet as we’re getting lighter might be a good thing.

    Winter annuals and feed

We plant a bunch of rye and clover under irrigation in the winter. Stockers typically grow in the ADG of 2# range. As you’ve seen from my sewer pipe post, I’m feeding a lot more than I used to but have never fed cattle on grazing. Any benefit to supplementing with 5-10# per day stockers on high...

    Kubota M9540 with 1340 loader

Anybody own one of these? Thinking about buying one with about 1500 hours on it. 4wd, cab, etc. Looks to be in great mechanical shape. Couple signs of wear, but seems cosmetic. Would use it to feed cows, mow, disc, and plant. Everything I’m currently using a case 70a open cab for with no major...

    Sewer pipe feeders

So, you didn't have problems with them moving the trough all over the place? It's a big pipe, and I haven't fed with them yet. Just trying to get ahead. Would much rather not do anything to them but drill drain holes.

    Crabgrass

I was too big of a chicken and couldn’t afford to be wrong to go full volunteer! As far as pusley goes, it’s a weed. https://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/pdffiles/AG/AG32000.pdf Check out page 16, 17: https://aurora.auburn.edu/bitstream/handle/11200/2495/1756BULL.pdf;sequence=1

    Sewer pipe feeders

I acquired a bunch of 24” ribbed on the outside, smooth on the inside pipe. About 300’ of it. I’m going to cut it in half and figure I can feed about 300 or so feeder cattle at a time with it. My problem is I don’t have a convenient way to “fence line” it. I basically have them in four rows in a...

    Crabgrass

We planted “quick and big spreader” variety purchased from Dalrymple under a pivot. He’s a ton of help! For us it was like better quality millet with a little longer growing season. I followed protocol and disc’d in the leftovers in the fall. I noticed that I had some pusley coming on as the...

    Heifer vs Steer

What are you grazing them on? Grass and a supplemental feed? Wheat? Irrigated Rye, ryegrass, and clover mix. with supplemental feed as needed, but as little as possible.

    Pasture/Tetraploid ryegrass question.

You’ll get some coming back from seed next year, but my experience has been not enough to depend on solely. Helps to run a light disc across in late fall or early spring to get the seed to the dirt. Maybe plant a reduced rate this time, but I would not put my faith in a volunteer stand. Hate...
